Local Solutions announces new Boaler Street hub to power people-led change across Liverpool
A new community base in Kensington will bring together care, housing and grassroots action under one roof — placing dignity, connection and collaboration at the heart of Liverpool’s future.
Liverpool-based charity Local Solutions has revealed plans to move to a new integrated site on Boaler Street, Kensington — a space designed to bring together support services, community life, and practical resources for local people. Opening in 2026, the new hub will house central services, a dedicated Carers Centre and Learning & Development Hub, alongside flexible space for grassroots groups, wellbeing projects, and local partnerships.
The move is part of Local Solutions’ growing commitment to place-based change — reshaping how support is delivered by listening to what matters to communities, co-designing services, and investing in relationships as much as resources.
Tom Harrison, Chief Executive said:
“Boaler Street isn’t just a new building. It’s a statement about how we work. It’s about putting the local in Local Solutions — about creating the conditions where care, community, and creativity can flourish together.”
The site will act as a Community Anchor Hub, offering:
- Integrated frontline support across care, housing, and wellbeing
- Space for grassroots organisations, peer groups, and local action
- Co-location with partners working across health, inclusion, and social support
Boaler Street builds on Local Solutions’ learning from recent innovations like the Community Empowerment Fund and wellbeing hubs in Netherley and Garston, and reflects the organisation’s evolving role as an enabler of people-led change — a connector of services, people, and place.
Backed by strategic reserves, the development aligns with Local Solutions’ three big missions: Transforming Social Care, Ending Homelessness, and Empowering Communities.
“We know the answers don’t sit in institutions alone — they live in our neighbourhoods, in our carers, our young people, our volunteers, and our everyday changemakers,” Tom Harrison continued. “Boaler Street will be a home for that belief — a place where support feels personal, and where people feel they belong.”
The Boaler Street hub will provide a permanent, accessible base for:
- Expanding community-led services
- Hosting events and learning opportunities
- Deepening collaboration across sectors
- Growing new community leadership
The charity’s 50-year track record in the region includes support for over 37,000 people each year, from young people in supported housing, to social care, to addressing safety, inclusion and wellbeing. The Boaler Street initiative marks a bold next step in how Local Solutions works: with, for and alongside communities.
