Meet Liverpool’s green champions – Sustainability Award finalists at The Guide Liverpool Heroes
53 minutes ago
The Guide Liverpool Heroes isn’t only about people and businesses doing amazing things, it’s the way they do them too.
We want to recognise those organisations and attractions in the city region who care about the environment and really put their good intentions into practice to make a positive impact.
Highlighting our green champions, the Sustainability Award winner will be announced, along with all our other Heroes awards voted for by the public, at a ceremony at Titanic Hotel on Friday November 21.
The Guide Liverpool Heroes 2025 is being brought to you by Liverpool Cruise Port, in partnership with San Carlo Restaurants.
We’d also like to say a big thanks to our sponsors Morecrofts, Liverpool ONE, Open Media, Radisson RED Liverpool, BOXPARK Liverpool, Wild Thang, Greatest Hits Radio, Sedulo, Gaskells Waste and Liverpool BID Company for supporting what’s going to be a brilliant night.
Here are our five shortlisted finalists for the Sustainability Award Sponsored by Liverpool ONE…
Brabners

Established for over 200 years, Brabners independent law firm, based in Exchange Flags in Liverpool city centre, has been recognised nationally for its commitment to excellence including featuring in The Legal 500’s 2025 Top Tier and Hall of Fame. With the aim of bringing about positive and lasting change, Brabners set itself ambitious sustainability goals which have been reflected in its own business practices and also in giving back to local communities by investing in green projects.
Maray

Fans of Liverpool-born restaurant group Maray know all about its tasty Middle Eastern-inspired small plates, but there’s more to Maray than just fantastic disco cauli! It’s a business that makes sustainability a priority in food and culture. Committed to reducing waste, sourcing ethically and supporting local communities with heart, the Maray team began working with the Sustainable Restaurant Association in 2018 and last year was awarded its top Food Made Good Standard three-star rating.
Oneday
Regeneration specialists Oneday have transformed Bowring Park and Golf Course, England’s oldest municipal golf course, into a national award-winner. A hub for innovation, learning and green skills launched at the start of this year, it won Sustainable Project of the Year at the Golf Environment Awards. It’s become Knowsley’s best kept secret for different kinds of golf, dog walking, children’s play areas, and food and drink at The Coach House – plus it created 85 local jobs.
Strawberry Field

As well as being one of Liverpool’s most iconic visitor attractions, and a must-go for Beatles fans from around the world, Strawberry Field – run by The Salvation Army – is committed to environmental, social and economic sustainability. Having achieved a Silver certification from Green Tourism, it’s now working towards Gold with green initiatives including bug hotels, bat and bird boxes, and hedgehog highways in the garden, growing its own vegetables and herbs for the cafe, and solar roof panels.
Zero Waste Liverpool

Zero Waste Liverpool saves huge amounts of surplus food, redistributing it at weekly community events to make sure it ends up on people’s dinner tables instead of landfill. Volunteers work with over 100 businesses across the region including all the major supermarkets, and restaurant chains, to pick up and give out food that would otherwise be dumped. Their busiest day of the year is Christmas Eve when the team works from 8am to 9pm handing out leftover festive food.
