5 delicious Michelin star restaurants near Liverpool

When it comes to fine dining, there’s one prize most restaurants would love to claim – a Michelin star, or even more than one for the very best of the best.

The wait for chefs came to an end when the latest list of Michelin star recipients was revealed at The Michelin Guide Ceremony 2026, held in Dublin this week.

Despite our amazing food scene, Liverpool restaurants sadly didn’t manage to secure one this year for the city.

But that doesn’t mean Michelin star dining is completely off the table because there are still options not too far away.

So, if you don’t mind a drive to experience what inspectors judge to be the finest dishes and gastronomic destinations in the north of England, where should you head?

Here are the restaurants with Michelin stars close to Liverpool …

Moor Hall in Aughton

Top of the list, retaining a hugely impressive three stars, is Moor Hall in Aughton near Ormskirk. Inside a beautifully restored Grade II listed 16th-century country house, Chorley-born chef patron Mark Birchall has set the bar for Modern British cuisine. Alongside the coveted stars, it has an unbelievable list of awards including last year ranking first in the Hardens Top 100 best UK restaurants annual diners’ poll. It has a lunch menu, which features Ormskirk gingerbread, for £145 per person or a Provenance menu at lunchtimes and evenings, for £265 per person.

Same location, different experience – The Barn is Moor Hall’s sister restaurant, which has earned one Michelin star of its own.  With beautiful views towards the neighbouring hall and lake, it’s a more informal option with simpler but still delicious menus including Sunday lunch. A set Lunch Menu is on Thursday-Saturday priced £48 per person, and a set Dinner Menu Wednesday-Friday, priced at £56 per person. There’s an a la carte too, with mains including roast Cornish monkfish and butter poached turbot with salsify, pear and Champagne sauce, and a Vegetarian Menu.

Just along the M62, Mana in Ancoats which is owned and operated by Chef Simon Martin claimed Manchester’s first Michelin star in decades when it was awarded one in 2019. It’s been praised by experts for its showcasing of British produce, including plenty of seafood, as well as Asian techniques. Take your pick from a Complete Menu £175 per person, Extracts Menu for £110pp or Lunch Menu £70pp with dishes like Padstow lobster cappelletti.

Skof in Manchester

Skof on Federation Street in central Manchester became the city’s second Michelin star holder last year, when it was awarded one star in the 2025 guide. Based in an old textile warehouse, this restaurant is led by Tom Barnes, former executive head chef at three-star L’Enclume and Rogan & Co in Cumbria. Skof is a tasting menu restaurant specialising in Modern British cooking – with a choice of two different lengths, the shorter (still pretty long!) one is £130pp and the (even) longer one is £175pp. Signature dishes include Orkney scallop and Barney’s tiramisu.

sō–lō in Aughton

Aughton really is the Michelin epicentre of the North West, with sō–lō making it a grand total of five. On the list for 2026, this restaurant on Town Green Lane prides itself on a combination of luxury and informality, so although the food is exceptional the place itself doesn’t feel off-puttingly fancy. The first solo venture of chef Tim Allen, it offers a choice of three menus: Tasting (£105pp) with dishes like Isle of Skye scallop, Sunday Lunch, £64 for four courses, and Lunch, £55 for three courses.

Even though Liverpool didn’t manage to gain a star this time, seven restaurants do feature in the Guide which is an impressive accolade.

Big congratulations to The Art School, ‘8’ By Andrew Sheridan, NORD, Vetch, Manifest, Belzan and Pilgrim.
