One of Liverpool’s most popular markets is coming back this March

Mossley Hill Makers Market, held at Mossley Hill Parish Church on Rose Lane, only happens twice a year, in spring and November, so it’s become a must-go date in the city’s creative calendar.

The next one is on Saturday March 7, when more than 50 local makers will come together to set up stalls showcasing everything from art, pottery, jewellery, flowers and wellbeing products, to preserves, cakes, limoncello, chocolate and gluten free pies.

There’ll also be music throughout the day from David Alexander, performing inside the Church with a set at 12pm and 1pm, and Sound Together choir who’ll be singing outside in the Church Yard at 2pm.

In addition to lots of gift ideas, there are plenty of tasty options for anyone fancying lunch while they’re there – Scotta Bocca Pizza will be making wood fired pizzas in the Church Yard alongside Grandpa’s Kitchen, and Bean There Coffee will be inside running the coffee bar along with Kitty’s Cakes.

Mossley Hill Makers Market was launched in 2019 by The Liverpool Jam Company founder Sam Keohane who brought friends and other small local independent businesses together to create the event.

This latest edition, on from 10.30am to 3.30pm, will be the 14th and Sam has been amazed by just how much it’s grown.

After starting with 30 tables, demand from creatives has increased hugely and Sam now gets more than 200 applications for the 50+ slots available.

To give everyone a fair chance of being selected, stalls are allocated on rotation and Sam makes sure they are all from within 25 miles of Liverpool and everything is handmade.

Although the market has expanded so much over the years, there are still regulars who visitors love including Coco Baroque, The Gluten Free Pie Company, Bean There Coffee, Shadow and Line Jewellery, Candle Collective and Brady and Blue.

Sam says alongside promoting local small businesses, the market is an asset for the community too.

Mossley Hill Makers Market welcomes the community into the church and all money from the tables goes straight into the church fund, helping to support the outreach work that the church carries out,” she adds.

With around 2,000 people attending each time, a team of volunteers helps to run the event on the day, including rector Rev Rachel Archer.

Rev. Rachel said:

“Our Church exists to serve our community. The Makers Market is a great way of opening our doors and providing a warm and friendly space in which to browse local produce and crafts”.

Jon Metcalf, Chair of Sound Together, says the Makers Market is one of their favourite gigs of the year:

“We perform at lots of different gigs, but we always love coming back to the market. It’s special for us to support one of our founding members, Sam, and enjoy the community-driven space she’s helped create.”
