Liscard to host family-friendly 999 day event this Friday
2 hours ago
Locals are invited to head down to Liscard Town Centre on Friday, May 29, 2026, for a free 999 day event.
Spanning Liscard Way and the inside of the Cherry Tree Shopping Centre, the event will gather emergency services, local organisations, and partners. It promises a fantastic day packed with family-friendly activities, interactive displays, and community education. Visitors can meet your local emergency services and community partners between 11:00 and 14:00.
Celebrating its third anniversary, the event is spearheaded by Wirral Constable Nicola Irlam. Her close partnership with Cherry Tree management, local businesses, and the neighbourhood has helped the event grow bigger and better every year.
Visitors can meet officers and explore a range of policing resources, such as:
- Local policing teams with a Raptor vehicle, carrier and patrol vehicles
- PCSOs offering bike marking, mobile phone marking and crime prevention advice
- Armed Response Vehicles
- Roads Policing Unit vehicles and (subject to availability) motorcycles
- Mounted Section horses
- A Mobile Police Station
- Police Cadets and Mini Police representatives
- Wellbeing dogs
The event will also include a number of partner organisations, such as:
- St John Ambulance, providing demonstrations and safety advice
- RNLI, attending with a lifeboat RIB
- Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, who plan to deliver a live vehicle rescue demonstration using a donated car

The initiative aims to create a welcoming environment where residents can meet emergency personnel, learn about their roles, and receive practical guidance on community and personal safety.
The event has proved highly successful in previous years, offering a valuable opportunity to strengthen community relationships and showcase collaborative working across services.
Merseyside Police Wirral Constable Nicola Irlam said:
“I’ve always loved Liscard, loved my job, and loved the people who live here. They deserve a day where they can see what their emergency services do, meet the teams behind the uniform, and know that we’re approachable.
“That’s what inspired this 999 Day in the first place – It’s a family fun day, but it has a real purpose: building a genuine rapport between the public and their local emergency services. When people get to know their local police officers and other responders, trust grows. Events like this strengthen those relationships and make Liscard an even safer, more connected place.”

Lee Arnall, Lifeboat Operations Manager (LOM) at New Brighton RNLI, said:
“We are so lucky to work alongside such a fantastic array of emergency services personnel on Merseyside. We often see first hand the incredible work they do, and how effectively all departments work together to keep us all safe. It’s a joy to be part of events such as this one, which we hope will highlight to the local community the work we do at New Brighton RNLI to save lives at sea, and the invaluable efforts of our colleagues across the emergency services.”
