Arts Bar Baltic is bringing a morning Coffee Rave to Liverpool, combining a waterfront run with coffee and some daytime partying.

They launched the concept last month after being inspired by a similar trend in Australia, and 150 runners turned up for the first one. Now it’s back this Saturday, June 6, with a different DJ but the same relaxed vibe.

Arts Bar owner Alex Medlicott says it’s a chance to showcase creatives and bring people together for a different kind of social.

Alex commented:

“This is a big thing in Australia where they’ve got a massive coffee culture and we’re always looking for new opportunities to give creatives a chance to perform. Since we renovated the Baltic we’ve had a real boost in putting DJs on. We’ve put a DJ booth in so it gives them a proper platform, so we thought, let’s give it a try and do one ourselves.

“We’ve teamed up with Sweat to Social, who do community run groups and events all over Merseyside, and the idea is you come, drop your bags, place your coffee order which is covered in your ticket, then you go out for the 5k.

“It’s a social run so you’re at a slower conversational pace, then when you get back to the bar your coffee’s waiting for you and the DJ’s on ready to go.”

They launched what’s planned to be a monthly event in May, with viral sensation Touch of Funk DJing.

Alex says:

“He’s massive on TikTok and Instagram, doing mashups of old disco songs with modern pop. He was coming for a gig anyway, so we tied it in and did a feelgood Saturday morning disco to get the first one off the ground and then he stayed and did the evening.

“He’s done them in Australia where they don’t attach it to run clubs, it’s more coffee and a party, so he was a bit worried people were going to be too knackered to get on the dancefloor after a 5k.

“But they were all buzzing, the dancefloor was filled, it was a really nice vibe and just a different way to start your Saturday morning.”

Because it starts from 10am, it’s not for over-18s only, so Alex says it’s attracting a really mixed crowd:

“At the first one someone brought two kids with them who did the run, and I think it actually suits especially young parents who can’t go out on Saturday night anymore. It gives them that same buzz and connection of being in a room dancing with everyone, and you’ve done a 5k as well!”

The next Coffee Rave is Saturday, June 6, with Liverpool’s Millie Manning DJing.

Everyone taking part gets to Arts Bar Baltic on Parliament Street for 10am, puts their coffee order in, and heads for a run along the waterfront to the Liver Building. Then it’s back along the front to the bar for around 11am, where coffee’s waiting and the DJ’s on until about 12.30pm.
