Africa Oyé announces official afterparty lineup across Liverpool
Africa Oyé

Africa Oyé may finish each evening in Sefton Park, but the celebrations will continue long into the night with a series of official afterparties taking place across Liverpool.

Now a much loved part of the festival experience, the afterparties help support the charity behind Africa Oyé while giving festivalgoers the chance to keep the music and atmosphere going after the main event.

This year’s official programme includes events at the African Caribbean Centre, Quarry and Handyman, with a mix of Afrobeat, reggae, house, disco and global sounds on offer throughout the weekend.

African Caribbean Centre hosts flagship Oyé afterparty

The African Caribbean Centre will once again welcome festivalgoers for one of the biggest afterparties of the weekend.

Headlined by DJ Edu, the event will also feature sets from Soulfultiz, D Fresh, Jayspay, DJ NS and the Decks in the City DJs.

Music lovers can expect an energetic soundtrack of Afrobeat, Amapiano, house, hip hop, dancehall and R&B as the celebrations continue into the early hours.

The event takes place on Saturday 20 June from 9pm until 3am at the African Caribbean Centre in Liverpool 8.

Limited first release tickets are available from £5.

Quarry joins the celebrations for the first time

Africa Oyé is teaming up with Quarry for the first time this year, with free entry events taking place on both festival nights.

On Saturday 20 June, Andy Votel and Friends present Agitation Free, alongside Zero Fret Record Roulette, promising a night of rare vinyl discoveries, global grooves and forgotten classics.

The event runs from 9pm until 2am and is free to attend.

Sunday night sees Quarry host Peace & Love in the Garden, celebrating reggae, roots, dub and steppers sounds from 10pm until 3am.

Festival organisers say guests can expect conscious vibrations, sound system culture and plenty of positive energy throughout the evening.

Disco Africa returns to Handyman

One of the most popular afterparties of previous years is also making a return.

Disco Africa heads back to Handyman on Saturday night with a soundtrack of Afro disco, highlife and dancefloor classics.

Dharma Collective, Laura Weaver, Mono Mondo and the Disco Africa crew will be behind the decks from 8pm until 1am.

The event is free to attend, although organisers warn it regularly reaches capacity, so early arrival is recommended.

Africa Oyé returns to Sefton Park this weekend

Africa Oyé takes place on 20 and 21 June in Sefton Park, bringing together international artists, emerging local talent and community performers for one of Liverpool’s biggest and most vibrant cultural celebrations.

Tickets for the festival are available now via the Africa Oyé website.
