Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is celebrating a major milestone as its popular Defeat Delamere trail run returns to Delamere Forest for its fifth birthday on Sunday 13 September 2026.
What began in 2022 has grown into one of the charity’s flagship fundraising events, bringing together runners of all ages and abilities to take on the stunning woodland trails while raising vital funds to support everyone affected by lung cancer.
This year’s event is expected to welcome 1,000 runners, making it the biggest Defeat Delamere yet. Participants can choose from four distances, including a 5K (ages 14+), 10K (ages 15+), 16K (ages 16+) and a Junior Run (ages 4+), ensuring there’s a challenge for every member of the family.

To mark the event’s fifth birthday, organisers are promising a true festival atmosphere, with The Rock Choir, energetic cheerleaders and supporters lining the route to keep runners motivated from start to finish.

Polly George, Events Fundraising Manager at Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said:
“It’s incredible to be celebrating five years of Defeat Delamere. What started as an exciting new challenge has become a firm favourite in our events calendar, with an amazing community of loyal runners, volunteers and supporters returning year after year.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming around 1,000 participants this September for what promises to be our biggest and best event yet. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, taking on your first trail run or bringing the family along for the Junior Run, every step helps us continue our work supporting people affected by lung cancer and funding life-saving research.”

Set against the backdrop of Cheshire’s beautiful Delamere Forest, runners will tackle scenic woodland trails, rolling hills and varied terrain before crossing the finish line to collect their well-earned medal and celebrate alongside fellow participants.
Every entry helps Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation continue its vital work funding research, raising awareness of lung cancer and providing support to people living with the disease and their families.
With places expected to fill quickly, runners are encouraged to sign up now and join the fifth birthday celebrations.
