This has to be one of the city’s most-anticipated restaurant openings of the year – Barnacle, led by Paul and Harry Askew with head chef Kieran Gill, is opening in the old blind school on Hardman Street, creating dishes championing the best of Liverpool & the North West in a beautiful historic building.

New Bird Kitchen has launched in the Baltic


If you’re in the Baltic check out this new place at District for grab & go sandwiches, sweet treats, and drinks. They use high welfare, organic and locally-sourced ingredients and the fillings are gorgeous – egg mayo on sourdough with spiced Indian pickle, black onion seeds & rocket is an early favourite.

Prohibition-themed bar, Whisky & Water at Blackstock Market

There’s so much going on at Blackstock Market, but definitely don’t miss Whisky & Water. It looks like it’s from another really cool era, and if you love whisky you’ll be spoilt for choice because it has over 420 available by the dram. There’s live jazz & blues on every Friday and Saturday from 8pm too.

If you were ever thinking Shakespeare’s a bit dull, then this production of The Tempest will set you straight because thanks to the HandleBards and their signature irreverent style, it might be a classic but it’s also an absolute riot of music and mayhem. September ending is the best news for everyone who loves Oktoberfest because it’s finally that time of year again! A giant lederhosen-filled celebration is back at the Exhibition Centre this Saturday, with two sessions, steins of beer, Bavarian food, funfair rides and live music from The Bavarian Stompers.

The Book of Mormon opens at the Empire

The Empire’s centenary year line-up of amazing West End hit shows carries on with multi-award-winning The Book of Mormon, from the creators of South Park. Described by the New York Times as ‘the best musical of this century’, it runs from Tuesday to October 18, it’s outrageously and full of catchy songs.

The Derby Days is all about couple Dave Derby and Debbie Day, one a Red and the other Blue, and the kick-off that a family secret causes even before the ref blows his first whistle. Make having a wander at the Albert Dock even better by treating yourself to a freshly baked focaccia sandwich from Francie’s. The Tavern on Smithdown is a bit of a food and drink legend in the city, not least because of its award-winning full English which still has a growing fanbase. The menu’s got a Tex-Mex flavour, with loaded burritos, Texas chilli and sizzling fajitas, there’s live music and cash prize quizzing every other Sunday.

It’s super-scary but we love it! Fright lovers have had this date circled on their calendars all year, because Farmageddon in Ormskirk is back until Saturday November 1 with The Beast of Terror, The Meat Locker, the Fear Go Round, the Maze of Death, and horrifyingly new for this year is The Facility.
