EDITOR’S PICKS: All of this to look forward to this weekend in Liverpool
7 years ago
It’s time to dust off the giant Guinness hat and prep your house to the max for a giant post St. Patrick’s Day hangover on Sunday. PADDY’S DAY THIS YEAR FALLS ON A SATURDAY! I REPEAT PADDY’S DAY THIS YEAR FALLS ON A SATURDAY!
Things are about to get LOUD on The Guide Liverpool too as Johnny Bongo takes over our studio for the next couple of days building up the Bongo’s Bingo third birthday celebrations.
As well as that there is tonnes happening around the City this weekend to keep you busy.
For Breakfast…
Cafe TABAC, Bold Street
How’s about brekky on Bold Street this St. Patrick’s Day weekend? Cafe Tabac has been serving up delicious home cooked food and hand crafted cocktails since 1974. This weekend they have an all day Irish Breakfast served up with a pint of Guinness for just ÂŁ10. Go on ahead!

For Lunch…
The Brink, Parr Street
Veggies, health conscious folk and everyone in between, The Brink on Parr Street have a new veggie menu that contains the best Vegetarian Lasagne I have ever tasted, Fallafel & Halloumi Burgers and delicious Mediterranean Vegetable Parcels. Wash it down with a super healthy smoothie or one of the now famous brink mock-tails and you’ve got the perfect Liverpool lunch for those trying to stay out of trouble.
More info and the full menu here.
For Dinner…
Nonno’s, Lark Lane
The old Esteban has been transformed, now selling pizzas and small Mediterranean plates of deliciousness. The smell from the new huge wood-fired pizza oven hits you as soon as you walk in and there is a huge range of authentic style Italian dishes, small plates, large plates and a tasty selection of desserts too. Plus locally sourced beers and gins, classic cocktails and an atmosphere perfect for any occasion. This is a must-visit and a great addition to the already busting Lark Lane food scene.
Check out the full menu and more here.
For Supper…
The Clubhouse, Liverpool ONE
I got treated to the first ever Supper Club event at The Clubhouse in Chavasse Park this week, showcasing their new selection rotisserie meats which are cooked low and slow in their own juices for unrivalled flavour, served with properly flavoured chips. There are lots of other new items on the deli board too. Add to that one of the most relaxed and comfortable atmospheres in the city centre and you’ve got your perfect evening out.
For a Drink…
Sanctuary Tap, Castle Street
Castle Street just gets better and better, and we have found the perfect sanctuary for a relaxing pint on one of our city’s finest streets. Offering live music most nights, great cocktails, home made pie and mash, and delicious real ales and beers the Sanctuary Tap needs t o be on your night out list this weekend.

For the Luck of the Irish…
Liverpool’s Irish Pubs
The city will turn green this weekend as thousands get on the Guinness and celebrate all that is good about our neighbours over the Irish Sea. We are split for choice in Liverpool when it comes to quality, authentic Irish pubs. Flanagan’s Apple, O’Neill’s, Pogue Mahone’s, McCooley’s, The Liffey and tonnes more, all celebrating St Patrick’s Day in style this Saturday with drinks offers across the city, live Irish music and more Guinness hats than you can shake a four leaf clover at.
For a St. Patrick’s Day Party…
On Air, Cains Brewery Village
Prepare for your mind to be blown. On Air Liverpool opens this weekend at the old Home Alone themed bar next to Ghetto Golf in Cains Brewery Village. Guests are immersed into a movie set and will feel like cast members of a Hollywood blockbuster as they sip away on themed cocktails and listen to the live music on offer. This weekend they have a St. Patrick’s Day Festival running – perfect for you introduction to Liverpool’s hottest and most unique new venue.
For A Disco…
40 Years of Disco at Echo Arena, Sunday
Glitter and dance moves at the ready as some real disco legends take to the stage this Sunday at our Echo Arena. Sister Sledge who brought us hits including ‘We Are Family’ and ‘Thinking of You’ are headlining alongside Tavares, Boney M and more. Some tickets still available, flares not included.
For a Showstopper…
Council Depot Blues continues its hilarious run at Royal Court Liverpool, I went to see this a couple of weeks ago and I’m still laughing. Writer Dave Kirby is at his best, with plenty of giggles and great live music for your weekend. Wicked also continues at the Liverpool Empire with a spectacular stage show which transports you to the magical world of OZ, prior to the movie storyline beginning. And the Everyman Company Season continues with Paint Your Wagon receiving some incredible reviews at the Everyman Theatre.
Shout Out…
A massive good luck to Denise Fergus and all of the team at the James Bulger Memorial Trust. This Saturday will see the 6th annual Black Tie and Tiara Ball take place at Crowne Plaza Liverpool. I am super proud to be in involved and hosting the night once again, this time with our very own Claire Simmo. The night is anticipated to be more special than ever with the year marking 25 years since James’s tragic death. Raise a glass with us this weekend and keep supporting an amazing cause.
