The Spooky Welly Walk is back this weekend with Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation
5 years ago
‘Spooky Welly Walk’ rises again! Fang-tastic family fun returns to Sefton Park on Saturday.
The nights are drawing in and the leaves are falling fast, so the ho-ho-haunting delights of Halloween can’t be far away.
Right on creepy cue, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation ‘Spooky Welly Walk’ returns to Sefton Park to get the spectral season off to its now-traditional scary start. It’s the perfect opportunity for the whole family to dress up in their spookiest styles!
This year, the charity event features even more ‘spectre-tacular’ side-shows and awesome attractions to bewitch even the most demanding little monsters, including long-time favourites such as the Yucky Dip, Spooky Storytelling and Creepy Crafts.

Local businesses are lending their support too. Airborn Academy will be showing off their flips, spins and gymnastics skills, Chester Zoo is bringing its ‘Dare to Touch’ and ‘Guess the Animal Fur’ games and Regatta is offering some tasty scary treats – bbq bamboo worms anyone?!
There’ll be treats and prizes to be won at the side-shows and stalls along the route and every child finishing the ‘Spooky Welly Walk’ gets a medal. Proceeds help Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation find more ways to diagnose lung cancer earlier and to support people living with it.
Jenny Lloyd, the charity’s Fundraising Manager, who is co-ordinating the event, said: “Spooky Welly Walk is one of our highlights of the year.
“It’s always a great way to spend an afternoon. All the family dressed up in their best spooky costumes, strolling through the park and having fun. And every penny helps us with the work we do, funding scientific research and supporting people affected by lung cancer”.

Sadly, the disease remains the UK’s biggest cancer killer. It claims the lives of around 36,000 people every year – more than the total killed by breast, prostate and pancreatic cancers combined.
While the charity is proud of its Liverpool roots, it’s made a national impact too, campaigning for the introduction of the ban on smoking in public places, funding the first dedicated lung cancer nurse specialist and saving lives with its lung health check pilot projects.
This year, 14 similar schemes in ten locations across England have been rolled out by NHS England, and Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation hopes this will a step towards a full-on national screening programme. That’s why the Spooky Welly Walk is not only a fun event, it’s also a step in the right direction.
How to book for Spooky Welly Walk: Early bird tickets cost £4 for adults and children, or £5 on the day. Children under 2 are free. Book online by visiting www.roycastle.org/spooky
