10 things to do this weekend in Liverpool (18-20 Dec 2020)

Not long to wait now, but there’s still a few shopping and festive eating days to Christmas in Liverpool so make them count. 

Maybe throw in a few cocktails too, because you’ve earned a bit of a treat, so leave the car at home and get yourself into town without any hassle on a Merseyrail or an Arriva bus.

You can go Bottomless all weekend at Jimmy’s 

Get some training in for next weekend’s big blow-out by going Bottomless at Jimmy’s opposite the Bombed-Out Church. Go for the bottomless brunch and pick yourself out an English or American classic then keep the cocktails, beers or G&Ts flowing. Or, if you fancy getting in a roast before Christmas lunch, Jimmy’s is amazing and you get a teapot of gravy for the table, so that’s pretty much bottomless too.

Rock out to the Classic Rock Show on Friday

Fans of rock legends like Queen, Steely Dan, Led Zeppelin and Van Halen are in for an early Christmas treat at the M&S Bank Arena tonight when The Classic Rock Show Christmas Party lands. It’s the ultimate live festive jukebox, so get ready to rock with absolute belters like Fairytale of New York and I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day.

See Cinderella Live at the ODEON in Liverpool ONE

Even if you can’t get to a panto at the theatre this year, you can still get the feel of a live performance but just at the ODEON instead. See a 75-minute traditional version of the much-loved tale of Cinderella, with all the usual songs and comedy, starring Michelle Heaton as the Fairy Godmother. It’s showing at Liverpool ONE from December 18 to 26 with Covid safety restrictions in place.

See The Snowman with a live orchestra at the Phil

The Snowman is an absolute family Christmas classic film and there’s really no better way to watch it, or to get yourself in the mood for the next week, than this family concert at the Phil. It’s on Saturday and Sunday and each screening will be accompanied by the orchestra playing live – plus, as well as Walking In the Air which everyone knows and loves, there’ll be extra treats including music from Frozen.

Ride an e-scooter to take in the sights and Christmas lights

If you’re looking for an easy, environmentally-friendly way to get around and about town then try out a Voi e-scooter. They launched here a few months ago and now the scheme has proved so popular that it’s expanded so there’s even more places you can hire one including train stations at St Michaels, Sandhills and Edge Hill, plus the Royal and Women’s hospitals.

Enjoy a gig again at Rumours of Fleetwood Mac at M&S Bank Arena (tickets left for Sunday)

It’s not just a rumour … one of the best tribute bands is back on the Liverpool stage at the M&S Bank Arena this weekend – and there are tickets available for Sunday. Rumours of Fleetwood Mac pay homage to the legendary group and it includes a tribute to the group’s founder member, Peter Green, as well as live versions of hit songs like The Chain, You Make Loving Fun and Go Your Own Way.

Carols at the Met Cathedral

If there’s anything we love more than singing carols at Christmas it’s listening to a great choir and one of the best in the city, the Metropolitan Cathedral Choir, is leading Carols at The Cathedral tomorrow and Sunday, at 6pm. You’ll need to book to hear all your favourites like Ding Dong Merrily on High and O Holy Night, but if you can’t get there in person, the carol services will be live-streamed, so you can still join in.

Virtual dance festival with F.A.C.E and In Demand radio on Saturday

Get a good sleep tonight because you’re going to need every bit of energy for this 10-hour dance fest. It’s Christmassss, and from 4pm Saturday until 2am on Sunday, F.A.C.E. Events and In Demand Radio and TV’s Virtual Xmas Festival will be raising money for The Bloom Appeal with a line-up of DJs including Ian Longo, Paul Bleasdale, Billie Clements and John Kelly.
