A Halloween silent disco is coming to Liverpool city centre
1 year ago
If you love a bit of Thriller or fancy doing the Monster Mash in a big party around town, now’s your chance because there’s a Halloween silent disco happening in Liverpool this year.
The team from Silent Adventures, which runs roaming silent discos here every weekend, has come up with a special spooky headphones-on tour around the city centre.
So instead of the usual big anthems and classic belters, the playlist will be all themed and everyone taking part is being encouraged to get dressed up in costume and join in the fun.
Jen Cartwright from Silent Adventures Liverpool says it’ll be a chance for mates to get together, have a laugh and a sing, and enjoy the less scary side of Halloween:
“We have our ultimate tour every Saturday, and we did some specials around Eurovision which were brilliant, so we thought with it being Halloween we’d add the element of optional fancy dress and put all of those iconic songs on the set list.
“We haven’t finalised it yet but there’ll be some obvious bangers that have to be in there like Thriller, the Time Warp, and Bat Out of Hell. It’s definitely more spooky than scary, it’s just all about celebrating the camp side of things and letting your inhibitions go. And you can be pretty sure no-one’s going to jump out at you dressed as a zombie!”
“Although it’s got ‘silent’ in the title, there’s nothing quiet about the tours. With group numbers anywhere between 20 and 80, they actually create quite a stir as they boogie their way through the streets on a loop from Liverpool ONE.”
“We call it sight-singing instead of sightseeing because people like to sing along, everyone is so into it which is fantastic. Nobody is the world’s best singer when you’ve got the headphones on, it can sound a bit like karaoke at 5am, but it doesn’t matter, everyone’s doing the same so it’s quite an empowering thing to do.
“We always get such a lovely rapport with people in town, their faces when they see us go past, they can’t help smiling back at us because there’s something so infectious about it. People just respond in a really positive way to seeing everyone having a good time.”
The hour-long Halloween tour will be on Saturday October 28, starting at 3pm from outside the Club House in Liverpool ONE, before heading through the city centre taking in Mathew Street and Castle Street.
Jen says there’s usually a stop-off at the steps by John Lewis for an impromptu choir once everyone’s well and truly warmed up.
“By that point everybody’s lost all their inhibitions, and it’s just a gorgeous moment to hear everyone singing together.”
The silent discos are proving a popular way for groups of mates and family to start off a celebration or get together.
“We’ve had quite a lot of people using the tours as a pre-show to their night out because it means they don’t start drinking at 2pm, this is just fun, and it makes the day last a bit longer!”
The Halloween one will be the first themed disco tour since Eurovision in May, and then it’s on to a run of Christmas specials.
“It’s nice to have holidays we can play around with and it’s a chance to get a bit quirky which we love,” says Jen.
“Last Christmas we had two tours that ended up being merged into a gigantic one and they all sang Mariah full pelt, dancing in the middle of town! It was absolutely brilliant.”
