9 pantos and shows you can see in Liverpool this Christmas
Pantos in Liverpool

It’s panto season. Oh no it’s not? Oh yes it is … well, nearly!

Christmas is getting closer and it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to celebrate it.

You can’t beat a bit of slapstick humour and the song and dance of a traditional panto to start the festive fun.

So if you want to get your seat sorted before the wicked witch can say abracadabra and turn you into a pumpkin, here’s nine pantos you can book in Liverpool this Christmas.

M&S Bank Arena – Sleeping Beauty

TV reality star and model Katie Price stars as Carabosse, the jealous evil queen who curses the beautiful princess to perish on her 21st birthday. Thanks to The Fairy, Sleeping Beauty falls into a deep sleep that can be broken by her one true love – but will a handsome prince come to her rescue? Bippo the clown, Britain’s Got Talen finalist Lucy Kay, and Andy Brennan (Queen FiFi of Fazakerley!) also star in the waterfront panto on from Saturday, December 16 to Saturday, December 30.

Everyman Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto – Cinderella

This is always one we look out for at Christmas and it’ll not disappoint for 2023. This year the iconic Everyman Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto is telling the story of Cinderella, with heaps of sass, silliness and sparkle, and its awesomely talented actor musicians who’ll bring the classic fairy tale to life in surprising style. Bursting with banging pop and rock tunes, it’ll have you singing and dancing along whether you’re eight, 18, or 80! There’s loads of opportunities to see it too, on from Friday, November 17 to Saturday, January 20, 2024.

Liverpool Empire – The Wizard of Oz

Follow that yellow brick road to the Emerald city because, because, because, because you’re guaranteed one of the great Christmas classics. Dorothy’s trying to get back to Kansas after the twister transported her away, and the Tinman, Scarecrow and cowardly Lion each have a gift to request of the great and powerful (?) Oz. JLS’ Aston Merrygold is The Tin Man and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner and Dancing on Ice’s The Vivienne is The Wicked Witch of the West in this star production coming straight from The London Palladium. It’s on from Wednesday, December 13 to Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Royal Court – The Scouse Dick Whittington

It’s got the live band, the great gags … and some pretty rude words – so leave the kids at home for this one! Dick was lying in his bed when a scary hairy fairy came to him in a dream to tell him if he went to London he’d become Lord Mayor. But London’s miles away ‘and full of divvies’ so why not become Lord Mayor of Liverpool instead? Tons of side-splitting fun at the Royal Court from Friday, November 10 to Saturday, January 20, 2024.

St Helens Theatre Royal – Aladdin

The Atkinson – Jack and the Beanstalk

Dean Sullivan - The Guide Liverpool

Is he going to be one of the best baddies we wonder?! Brookside legend Dean Sullivan – aka Jimmy Corkhill – stars as Fleshcreep in this evergreen panto about a boy who grows a beanstalk up to a magical land with the help of a handful of magic beans. Will Jack outwit the ferocious Giant Blunderbore and save the village from his wicked ways? Find out between Thursday, December 7 to Sunday, December 31.

Still with the magic beans and the gigantic beanstalk, but you can’t beat a good old favourite – or an amazing cast! Corrie and Emmerdale star Hayley Tamaddon is The Vegetable Fairy alongside Blood Brothers’ favourite Sean Jones as Simple Simon, and CBeebies’ Joseph Elliott as Fleshcreep in this lavish production in which Jack, with the help of his mother Dame Trot and brother Simon, tries to save the village from the evil giant and outwit the villainous Fleshcreep. It’s on from Saturday, December 9 to Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black, Arthur Kipps engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. Prepare to be on the edge of your seat from Tuesday, December 5 to Saturday, December 30.

Peter Pan flies in for one night only – and two afternoon matinees – at the M&S Bank Arena with the one-and-only Boy George starring as Captain Hook. It’s a big budget spectacular with the chance to see the Karma Chameleon making his panto debut, and it’s going to be huge. So if you want to experience the magic of the boy who never grows old, cirque performers, dazzling stunts, a death-defying escape, and more, make a note of the dates, Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3.
