Beat the back to school blues with our top family friendly activities in Mereyside this weekend

Huge congrats to everyone who’s gotten through the first week back at school, now lets have some fun!
We’ve lost cardi’s, PE kits and lunch bags already, but its finally the weekend and we can all breathe a sigh of relief…..until you notice the washing basket! Stick all that on the back burner and get out for some family fun this weekend instead. As usual the city region is teaming with all kinds of activities and events to get involved in, and we’ve lined up 7 of the best right here.
1 – The Reader’s Courtyard Fair, Calderstones Park
There’s a bumper day of fun planned this Saturday as The Reader teams up with Independent Liverpool to celebrate heritage, craft and community in the Calderstones Courtyard. The jam-packed schedule includes food stalls, including vintage, craft and local produce, bouncy castles, free introductions to Shared Reading sessions and a chance to see the Calder Stones and Mansion House up close. 2 – 300th Birthday Party at the Bluecoat
Our beloved Bluecoat celebrates its 300th birthday this weekend with a free tea party for all the family. Relax in the beautiful garden, with live music, including a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ by the Choir with No Name at 2pm, a BBQ and cupcake decorating activities for children. More info here.
3 – Toddle and Groove at Wigwam Coffee Shop
The little ones are invited to throw some shapes on the dance floor this Saturday as Wigwam Coffee Shop, Rose Lane, Allerton hosts Toddle & Groove from 10:30-12pm. Ideal for 0-3 years this session encourages you little movers and shakers to bust some moves (and burns off some steam) with other toddlers while parents and carers watch on (and grab a well earned cake and coffee). 4 – Get hands on with Skeletons at World Museum
World Museum, William Brown Street will be taken over by scientists for an exciting afternoon of family activities to discover amazing things that human skeletons this Saturday. Kids can create their own cave paintings, play a DNa guessing game and learn about archaeological human remains – sounds gruesome but is truly fascinating! 5 – Baby Beatles Boogie down at Camp & Furnace
You may be no stranger to getting down at Camp & Furnace at the weekends but this Sunday its time for the kids to show us how its done! The Baby Beatles Disco is a sell out event (as expected) but you can join the waiting list and hope and pray to Lennon that a space comes up for the hottest kids attraction this weekend! 6 – Discover the secrets of our maritime history at Heritage on the Dock
Heritage on the Dock returns this weekend and offers up tours, talks and drop in sessions allowing visitors to unlock the secrets of Albert Dock. Among the events planned, families can board famous ship ‘The Danny’ and meet the engineers, go behind the scenes of Liverpool’s very own Dazzle Ship, The Edmund Gardner, and hear fascinating tales about the historic Yarwood tug, France-Hayhurst.
7 – Big Screen fun at pocket money prices at Odeon, Liverpool One
If all else fails theres a fair few kids films showing at Odeon this weekend including the kids screen special Cars 3 and Diary of a Wimpy Kid which is only £2.50 admission. With pocket money price tickets you can afford to overdose on the popcorn and chill while the kids singalong and take in the big screen action. Spider-Man Homecoming, Captain Underpants, Emojo Movie and Despicable Me 3 are also showing. Check listings and buy your tickets online here.
