Beat the back to school blues with our top family friendly activities in Mereyside this weekend

Huge congrats to everyone who’s gotten through the first week back at school, now lets have some fun!

We’ve lost cardi’s, PE kits and lunch bags already, but its finally the weekend and we can all breathe a sigh of relief…..until you notice the washing basket! Stick all that on the back burner and get out for some family fun this weekend instead. As usual the city region is teaming with all kinds of activities and events to get involved in, and we’ve lined up 7 of the best right here.

1 – The Reader’s Courtyard Fair, Calderstones Park

There’s a bumper day of fun planned this Saturday as The Reader teams up with Independent Liverpool to celebrate heritage, craft and community in the Calderstones Courtyard. The jam-packed schedule includes food stalls, including vintage, craft and local produce, bouncy castles, free introductions to Shared Reading sessions and a chance to see the Calder Stones and Mansion House up close. Grab a footy and see the full line up of fun here.

2 – 300th Birthday Party at the Bluecoat

Our beloved Bluecoat celebrates its 300th birthday this weekend with a free tea party for all the family. Relax in the beautiful garden, with live music, including a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ by the Choir with No Name at 2pm, a BBQ and cupcake decorating activities for children. More info here.

The Guide Liverpool October Half Term

World Museum, William Brown Street will be taken over by scientists for an exciting afternoon of family activities to discover amazing things that human skeletons this Saturday. Heritage on the Dock returns this weekend and offers up tours, talks and drop in sessions allowing visitors to unlock the secrets of Albert Dock. Among the events planned, families can board famous ship ‘The Danny’ and meet the engineers, go behind the scenes of Liverpool’s very own Dazzle Ship, The Edmund Gardner, and hear fascinating tales about the historic Yarwood tug, France-Hayhurst.
