Belgium’s Eurovision 2023 entrant made an early visit to Merseyside to record music in Sefton’s Litherland

Soundhouse calls itself ‘one of the best examples of an analogue and digital hybrid facility’ with equipment similar to that seen in major studios such as Abbey Road.

Gustaph, whose Eurovision song for Belgium will be “Because of You”, visited the Soundhouse on Monday 13th March to record, and performed on a live radio broadcast direct to Belgium from the studios.

In the past few months, the Studio has hosted Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s Andy McClusky making a documentary for a Canadian production house and a team from Mexico making a documentary about 1980s chart-toppers Black.

And they have recorded 22-year-old Edge Hill University student Grace singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone,’ from which all the proceeds are going to support Ukraine, who should be hosting this year’s Eurovision Festival.

Jamie Hannaway, a business adviser from InvestSefton, Sefton Council’s Business Support Team, has been working Shaun and Soundhouse Studio to increase their profile and attract new business through a new marketing strategy and website upgrade.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Labour Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said:

“I would like to offer Gustaph a warm welcome to Sefton and am delighted that he and his team having chosen Soundhouse Studio, which our InvestSefton team has been working with, to make these recordings.

“I look forward to hearing the results and hope that the Belgium team enjoyed their visit to Litherland’s hidden gem Soundhouse and have a great Eurovision Festival in May.”

Elsewhere Sefton@Work and Job Centre Plus have been holding a Pop-Up Shop at Bootle Strand shopping centre to tell local people about jobs and volunteering opportunities during the Eurovision Song Contest and Festival.

Open Wednesdays and Thursday between 10am and 2pm until mid-April, the Eurovision Pop-Up Shop is the place to find out about the wide range of opportunities at the May events.

Cllr Atkinson continued:

“The Eurovision Festival in Liverpool is presenting a whole range of great opportunities for Sefton ranging from the recording sessions at Soundhouse Studios to opportunities for working and volunteering for local residents.

“And, as we get closer to the event, I expect to see more of the entrants wanting to visit Sefton’s wonderful, 22-mile coastline to film promotional videos, and beaming our beautiful beaches and spectacular dunes into millions of homes.”
