Chinese New Year celebrations are about to sweep the city and you need to bring your appetite!

What better way to celebrate Chinese New Year in Liverpool than with family and friends and a whole load of delicious food?! Whether you’re going out to watch the mesmerising Dragon Parade, light show or street theatre or staying in with a takeaway for two, we’ve got all the info you need to start the Year of the Pig with a satisfied, full belly!

Sui Mai - The Guide Liverpool

First up lets talk about Liverpool’s fascination with Sui mai, because when we asked for your favourite dish recommendations, you all raved about it!

Who would’ve known that this traditional Cantonese dumpling, filled with ground pork, mushrooms, ginger and spring onions could cause such a stir across one western city? If you’re having a party and there’s no Sui mai, is it really a scouse party?

You also told us that it’s not to easy to actually find this delicious dim-sum around the city anymore so we’ve done a bit of a recce and found you the following restaurants and markets to get your Sui mai fix! Just save us one, wont you?!

New Orchid Garden, West Derby

New Orchid Garden not only offers sumptuous sit-down meals but also a take away service and their Chinese New Year set menu features their divine sui mai as standard. This contemporary themed restaurant has been serving up some of the best Chinese and Cantonese cuisine for more than 20 years and remains a firm favourite with us scousers. Chi Nar Kitchen, Penny Lane

Second on the list of best siu mai producers is the Chi Nar Kitchen on Penny Lane. For a mere £3.20 you can feast on a portion of these delightful dumplings and even better, you can get them delivered straight to your door! Shang Hai House, Northway

How about a dum-sum combination starter for two to share this weekend as you get into the Chinese New Year spirit? Pan Asian restaurant and lounge, Matou has easily the best view of our stunning city. With seating for 120 people this is one of our favourite lunch venues for a tasty, filling meal.
