City School children come together to 'Wear Blue for Bobby'

City schools wear blue in memory of a very special little boy on his 10th birthday.

Tuesday 13th March is a special day in Liverpool as schools, families and friends come together to celebrate the life of Bobby Colleran, a little boy tragically killed in a road traffic accident after school, in October 2014. Bobby would have celebrated his 10th birthday today and in his memory, his classmates at Blackmoor Park Infant School and Kindergarten, and children across the city region are wearing blue for the day and donating whatever they can to The Bobby Colleran Trust.

Slow Down For Bobby posters adorn our city’s school and nursery gates as The Bobby Colleran Trust, set up to improve road safety for our city’s school children, campaigns tirelessly to ensure no family goes through the unimaginable pain of losing a child on the way to or from school. The registered charity has provided hi-viz jackets for after-school groups, holds regular Zumba events and school talks and also football tournaments in Bobby’s name to raise funds for further safety measures. Alongside charity t-shirts, car stickers and water bottles, a special book about road safety, ‘Superbob’ written by Author Jude Lennon was commissioned in 2016. The beautifully illustrated book, featuring Bobby as the hero, has now reached children in classrooms around the world, helping to raise money to keep our children safe on the school run.

As parents, carers and road users we all have a responsibility to abide by the speed limits, park sensibly around our schools and nurseries and ensure our kids make it into and home from school safely.
