Enjoy the last bit of sun this summer at these great spots to eat outside in Liverpool
5 years ago
We may be coming to the end of summer but we’re hoping there’s still a few days of gorgeous weather left, and what better way to spend a sunny day than an al fresco bite to eat?
There’s so many lovely places to eat outside in Liverpool, here’s a few of our favourites…
TriBeCa, Smithdown Road
If it’s pizza you’re after, where better to head than Smithdown classic TriBeCa? With dough made fresh on site every day and specials like the Dirty Sicilian with tomato, mozzarella, n’duja (a type of spicy spreadable sausage), french fries & and egg this is heaven for pizza lovers. Their Chambord Summer Garden at the back is dog friendly with football on the outside screens. Find out more here.
Papillon – Hope Street
Formally Host, Papillion is one of Liverpool’s newest most Instagrammable bar/restaurants. The perfect place for small plates and people watching on an outside table on a sunny day. If venison scotch eggs, curried lamb pasties and masala roast cauliflower tacos sound like your kind of thing you’ll love it here. They also have live jazz and you can bring the dog! See the full menu here.
Maray – Royal Albert Dock
With packed restaurants already on Allerton Road and Bold Street, Maray’s third venue is serving up all your favourite small plates and cocktails with the addition of a dockside beer terrace! The cauliflower is a Maray classic and make sure you try the lamb shawarma too. They also have a full vegan menu on request. Have a look at the full food and cocktail menus here.
The Old Stables – Allerton Manor Golf Club
Whether you’re a golf lover or not, The Old Stables is always a great option for eating outside, with a seasonal menu made up of locally-sourced ingredients. Afternoon tea in the sunshine could be the perfect way to say goodbye to summer with finger sandwiches, homemade cakes, freshly baked scones and the option to add on a glass of Prosecco. Just make sure you book in advance. Check it out here.
The Pen Factory – Hope Street
The Pen Factory has a really relaxed vibe with an open kitchen. The garden at the back is a little oasis in the middle of the Georgian Quarter and the perfect place to enjoy small plates like Southport potted shrimp or soy and honey glazed chicken wings. Wash them down with something from their wide range of specially selected cask ales, continental lagers or a bespoke seasonal cocktail. Look at a sample menu here.
The Penny Lane – Penny Lane
On the most famous road in Liverpool, The Penny Lane Wine Bar has new owners and a new look, and is now known as just The Penny Lane. The gin garden at the back is a great little sun trap on a warm day and the menu is a mix of small plates and gorgeous looking desserts like strawberry mousse, roast white chocolate, malted milk and mint. There’s live music on Fridays and Sundays too. Check them out on Facebook.
Crazy Pedros – Parr Street
Pizza, a roof terrace and cocktails are the perfect ingredients for a sunny day at Crazy Pedros. If you’ve not been before though, this is no ordinary pizza. Think chippy tea, nachos or fried chicken & waffles, on a pizza! Happy hour is 4 hours long Sunday to Friday and the frozen margaritas are great. See all the weird and wonderful toppings here.
Free State Kitchen – Maryland Street
They do serve other food but if you’re going to Free State Kitchen you really should order a burger. Big, messy and delicious and served with fresh rosemary salted fries this place is a burger lover’s paradise. They have live music and a DJ in the garden when the weather’s good and don’t worry if your eyes are bigger than your belly, they’ll pack it up so you can take it home. Check out the full menu here.
Polidor 68 – Lark Lane
A relative newbie to the Lane, the gorgeous looking Polidor 68 serves deli boards, both small and big plates, and they’re open for breakfast too if you fancy a full English in the sunshine. They also have a huge drinks menu full of wine, flavoured gin and cocktails. Don’t worry if it gets a little chilly later on, the beer garden has heaters! Find out about them here.
Little White Lies – Allerton Road
Formally Miyagis, Little White Lies is whiter, brighter and serving Italian food and cocktails. The great thing about here is they do pizettes (mini pizzas) so if you can’t decide on one, you can order a few! Grab a table out the front if you’re lucky and watch the world go by. They tend to post their specials on Instagram, have a look here.
