Everything you need to know about Liverpool Christmas Market
1 month ago
Christmas is definitely in the air – and there’s no better signal that the festive season has well and truly started than the opening of everyone’s favourite festive market.
Liverpool Christmas Market is back in the city next weekend, and here’s everything you need to know…
When is the Christmas Market on?
It’s on from Saturday, November 16, to Tuesday, December 24, so that’s five weeks of festive fun right in the heart of the city.
What time does it open?
Stalls will be open from 11am and close at 10pm.
Where is it?
You couldn’t get a better location for the Liverpool Christmas Market. Yet again it’s set against the stunning backdrop of St George’s Hall, stretching out along and around St George’s Plateau and William Brown Street.
What can I expect to find there?
All the amazing things that make up a Christmas market which will get those jingle bells ringing in your ears, not least loads of fabulous places to eat and drink. The tipi bar, the ski bar, and the windmill bar will be back this year, along with a new Bavarian Bar which will host local performers every weekend.
There will be plenty of selfie moments dotted around the market from life size Nutcrackers to Polar Bears so have your cameras ready to make amazing memories this festive season.
And for the kids especially, there will be plenty of rides and activities, like the big wheel, snow slide and Santa Land to make it the best family trip out.
You can bet there will be food stalls with everything from Yorkshire pudding wraps to pretzels and crepes and, of course, the odd bratwurst. You’ll also find a great hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and marshmallows.
And, if you fancy getting some Christmas shopping done too, you’ll find tons of traders ready to help you find the perfect gifts.
What traders will be there?
Usually there’s crafters and makers selling unique gifts, decorations, art, crafts, jewellery, and more.
How do I get there?
There couldn’t be an easier market to get to, especially if you’re travelling to the city by train. It’s opposite Liverpool Lime Street station, the city’s mainline station, which is also a stop for Northern Rail. If you’re coming from Wirral, there’s a Merseyrail Station at Lime Street, or you can change at Liverpool Central, Moorfields and James Street (all of which are only a short walk away too).
Where can I park?
If you’re heading into town by road, you can put St George’s Hall’s postcode into your SatNav – L1 1JJ. There’s plenty of parking close by including St Johns Shopping Centre, Q-Park at Queen Square, and Mount Pleasant Car Park.
Is it accessible?
The organisers of Liverpool Christmas Market are dedicated to making the market accessible to all visitors, wherever possible. Given that the market is situated around the Grade I listed St George’s Hall, there are challenges with the cobbled paving in this historic area. However, extensive work with accessibility advisors has led to several modifications to make the market as inclusive as possible, without impacting the Hall’s protected status.
The market has incorporated accessibility features including strategically placed dropped kerbs and ramps.
Additionally, the market layout now extends to William Brown Street and St John’s Gardens, both of which are free of cobbles, offering an alternative path for wheelchair users and others with mobility challenges. There are also dedicated wheelchair-accessible entrances located at Lime Street between the two lion statues, and on William Brown Street.
