Advertorial
Fancy going down the Rabbit Hole to a fantastically funky Wonderland with a difference?
That’s exactly where Liverpool audiences are heading this July with a brand-new production of Alice In Wonderland at the Playhouse.
The show promises to be the perfect summer adventure for all the family, so if you’re ready to go through the looking glass here’s everything you need to know …
When and where is it on?
Alice in Wonderland is on at the Playhouse, Williamson Square from Tuesday July 4 to Saturday July 22.
What makes this version of Alice in wonderland so different?
If you think you know all about Alice and her adventures with some weird and wonderful characters then prepare for plenty of surprises! This show is a riotous remixing of the Lewis Carroll classic complete with brilliant original music inspired by some great British pop tunes so there’s no shortage of opportunities to sing and dance along. There’s even a rap battle!
The story’s familiar but with a fresh spin
This Alice is a techy teenager who gets propelled into a strange new world of music when she slips with the screwdriver as she tries to fix her dad’s old stereo. She meets some new friends and some variations of ones we know so look out for encounters with the Queen of Charts, the Queen of Clubz and the Dad Hatter.
It’s heartwarming too
As well as having some amazing music and characters, the story also follows Alice’s journey back to happiness through friends and family after losing her dad. Director Kate Wasserberg explains: “We’ve taken a lot of inspiration from Pixar films in terms of wanting something that’s silly and fun on its own terms, but that also brings an emotional life to Alice that the original doesn’t necessarily have.”
It’s from the producers behind the Everyman panto
Alice in Wonderland has the same producing team as the Everyman’s famous rock and roll panto that’s been getting rave reviews from audiences for decades. And it keeps the panto’s much-loved concept of having an incredibly multi-talented cast made up of actor-musicians.
Who’s in the cast?
You’ll see a familiar face from the panto – Alice is played by Liverpool actor Paislie Reid who starred in Red Riding Hood at the Everyman. Alongside Paislie is Olivier, Critics Circle and WhatsOnStage.com award winner Leanne Jones as The Queen of Charts, and they’re joined by Daniel Carter-Hope, Natasha Lewis, Jerome Lincoln, Myles Miller, Zweyla Mitchell dos Santos, Tomi Ogbaro and Steve Simmonds.
It’s a fabulous family show so there are lots of matinees
The show is for age 7+ so there are times to suit everyone, with 7pm shows on Tue 4, Wed 5, Thu 6, Fri 7, Sat 8, Wed 12, Thu 13, Fri 14, Sat 15, Wed 19, Thu 20, Fri 21, and Sat 22. There are also 1.30pm matinees on Thursdays July 13 & 20, 2pm Saturday matinees on July 8, 15 & 22 and 3pm matinees on Sundays July 9 & 16.Â
