Families can get on board for fun with Liverpool’s famous Mersey Ferries this half term

Advertorial

There’s tons to do on both sides of the river this October half term and Mersey Ferries can help you get there – and be part of the fun itself!

If you’re planning a trip with Mersey Ferries you can hop on and off at either of the two ferry terminals, Liverpool Gerry Marsden (Pier Head), or Seacombe.

And the 50-minute round-trip River Explorer Cruise is a fantastic experience which you can easily turn into the best full day out for all the family.

River Explorer Cruises set off every hour on the hour from the Pier Head and 20-past the hour from Seacombe Ferry Terminal and there’s no other way to get such stunning views of the city’s legendary waterfront than from the River Mersey.

You can find out loads of interesting facts about Liverpool’s musical heritage, how the ferries played their part in the First World War and hear more about its maritime history from the expert recorded commentary which plays throughout the cruise (and, of course, watch in wonder as the waterfront and its famous landmarks like the impressive Three Graces, The Tobacco Warehouse, Wallasey Town Hall, The Museum of Liverpool and The Royal Albert Dock appear before your eyes).

Plus, if you book your tickets online you can use them any time in the next 12 months.

But it’s not just the River Explorer Cruise that will be your great trip out, it can also be your transport to a host of attractions and adventures on either side of the water.

At Seacombe Ferry Terminal you can now view designs for the first new ferry to be built for more than 60 years. And that’s just for starters.

Hop off there and there’s so much to see and do over on in Wirral, from the historic Birkenhead Park – the inspiration for Central Park in New York – with its open meadows and lakeside walks, to the seaside at New Brighton which is packed with fairs, shops and restaurants.

There’s the beautiful garden village of Port Sunlight, built by Lord Lever to create homes for workers at his soap factory, with its amazing walks, new SoapWorks family experience, its Edwardian worker’s cottage, and more … and they’re all only a couple of stops away by bus which you can catch from outside Seacombe Ferry Terminal.

You’ll also find Eureka! Science + Discovery centre at Seacombe Ferry Terminal, where you can explore how science, technology, engineering, arts and maths influence and shape our lives – connecting the everyday with the extraordinary.  And not only is the River Explorer Cruise an ideal way to get to and from Eureka! Science + Discovery, Mersey Ferries is offering Eureka! Science + Discovery ticket holders – you can get them in advance – a 20% discount on River Explorer Cruise tickets*. Bargain. T&Cs apply

If you hop off the ferry at Liverpool Gerry Marsden (Pier Head) Ferry Terminal you can enjoy a brew at the Fab4 Café before heading off to explore Liverpool’s fascinating architecture and history, with a live guide on the City Explorer Liverpool open top bus, with stops at the Royal Albert Dock, the Cavern Quarter and the Chinese Arch. (You can even save money by buying a ticket for a River Cruise & Sightseeing Bus Tour).

The Beatles Story, too, is just around the corner from the terminal with the world’s largest permanent exhibition devoted to telling the story of the ‘four lads from Liverpool’ – and again, you can enjoy discounted prices on both attractions with a Mersey Ferries’ combination ticket.

Bored this half term? Not a chance, with Mersey Ferries offering the perfect day out for all the family.
