Families join waterfront Pram Push to thank Liverpool Women’s Hospital

Hundreds of families will come together on Friday May 15 for a waterfront Pram Push in support of Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity.

This is the fifth annual 3k walk organised by the charity to help fund a variety of vital services at the hospital.

Around 150 prams, with mums, dads, babies and toddlers – as well as grandparents and friends – are expected to join in the event, which takes a circular route along Otterspool Prom.

Radio presenter Adam Weighell, whose own son Toby was looked after in the Women’s neonatal unit, will kick things off at around 11am.

Once the walk is completed, everyone taking part will have free entry to Otterspool Adventure Centre which is partnering with the Pram Push for the third year.

That will also be the start and finish point, with families and supporters setting off towards the red bull statue, down to the Prom towards Jericho Lane and back.

Kate Davis, head of fundraising for Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity, says the Pram Push has become a lovely way for people to say thank you to the hospital for the care they and their babies received.

“I think for families taking part there’s a sense of community too,” she adds. “When you’re a new parent you can feel quite isolated, you’ve not always got that network of other parents and those baby years can be pretty tough.

“This is a chance to meet other mums and dads in a similar situation and just come together to do something positive for the hospital that’s looked after you and the baby.”

Kate says the Pram Push has doubled in size since it first launched and now the collaboration with Otterspool Adventure has sealed its place as an annual fundraiser to look forward to.

She said:

“In previous years we were at Croxteth Hall and Princes Park, and we started with about 80 prams, but the real turning point was 2024 when we partnered with Otterspool Adventure.

“With their help we can offer everyone who attends free entry which is a lovely bonus if you’ve got a baby or a toddler because you’ve got access to the whole park for a day of play.

“We’re lucky to have that because it means we’re giving something back to our supporters who are kindly fundraising for us.

“Now it feels like the Pram Push has found its natural home and we’re really happy with how it’s grown.”

Kate says this year’s Pram Push is fundraising for even more services at the hospital, including emergency care and Honeysuckle baby loss support.

“Historically the money has gone to the neonatal unit, but this year we’re expanding it because we have lots of people who just want to say thank to our teams for a variety of reasons,” she explains.

“It’s a really accessible route because we want as many people as possible to be able to take part, and supporters raising money for the charity get a medal at the end. It’ll be baby’s first medal, hopefully starting them off early on their own adventures of doing Park Runs, marathons, challenges and events when they get older.

“It’s like them saying thank you to the midwives and the hospital that brought them into the world.”

This year’s Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity Pram Push is on Friday May 15. Walkers are asked to gather from 10.30am at Otterspool Adventure for a 11am start and it will be possible to register on the day.
