Family: 13 Things For The Kids To Do This Halloween on Merseyside

Halloween falls right at the end of half-term this year and are you in for a Trick or Treat with these family fun events and top tips!

Right, pitchforks at the ready, let’s have some fun!

 

1 – Stanley Park Halloween Family Forest School

Wellies at the ready! On 29th and 30th October, Stanley Park will be awash with witches and zombies getting to grips with fun outdoor activities including mini beast hunts, den building, bulb planting, forest art, campfires with marshmallow toasting plus special Hallowe’en games for children aged 4 to 8 year olds. Tickets cost ÂŁ3 per child and adults go free, buy yours here.

 

2 – Darkstar Laser Tag, St Helens

Darkstar love an excuse to throw a party, and with the added bonus of a few rounds of high energy laser tag thrown in, you’re invited to join the zombie-busting army this Halloween. Book your place for the family-friendly session on Friday 28th October where kids can burn off steam in the themed horror arena, pitch up for some pizza and go home with a prize for the best costume. 3 – Roy Castle Spooky Welly Walk, Sefton Park/Sherdley

The Spooky Welly Walk is a fab day out for all the family. Take a stroll through Sefton Park on Oct 22nd or Sherdley Park in St. Helens on Oct 29th (or do both!), enjoying tonnes of fun-filled activities. This year is set to be the biggest and best walk yet with some scarily good activities including a Halloween train, animal displays, puddle jumping with folks from Martin Mere and spooky storytelling. At the end of the walk, every child will receive their own medal and the chance to meet me, Samantha the Panther, the official Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation mascot. Book your place here.

 

4 – Halloween Craft Fair, West Derby Village 

West Derby Village has hosted a series of fair’s and markets this year, but the Halloween Fair planned for October 29th is set to be the most fun yet! With arts, crafts, food and drink this is a perfect little pit-stop en route to Croxeth Country Park for a welly walk with your little witches and vampires. Don’t forget to check out Home Farm while you’re there! Halloween selfies galore!

5 – Dia De Los Muertos, Constellations, Baltic Triangle

NOW SOLD OUT: Rebel Soul UK are hosting an awesome family event at Constellations on Saturday 22nd October. This year’s theme will focus on Mexican folk tales and traditions, as they celebrate DĂ­a de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with activities, workshops, costumes and music…..ditch the witch costume and embrace the sugar skull! 6 – Go Green for Halloween, Gilmoss Discovery Centre

Gilmoss Veolia’s Recycling Discovery Centre near Liverpool is hosting spooktacular craft sessions this October half term. Make this Halloween the greenest yet! You can make your own upcycled treat bucket and spooky lantern out everyday items. For more details check out their website here.

7 – Hotel Transylvania at Picturehouse at FACT

Maybe give the old school horrors a miss and head to Picturehouse at FACT for Hotel Transylvania on Sunday 30th October. The first showing is at 11am, with an Autism Friendly showing at 11:30. Dig out your best costume and watch your fangs on the popcorn as FACT transports you to Dracula’s five stake, lavish resort for a tale of monster proportions! Book your tickets here.

8 – Kenyon Hall Farm, Warrington

Every Halloween the team at Kenyon Hall Farm go pumpkin crazy and they just can’t wait to celebrate with you! Join them for pumpkin picking*, carving, eating and more! The Festival starts this Saturday (15th October) but if you can’t wait til then, they have pumpkins available to pick or buy ready-picked now. Admission to the festival is free, and no booking is required. 9 – Pumpkin Fest at Martin Mere, Burscough

With October half term creeping up on us we have loads of spooky activities going on at WWT Martin Mere for the whole family to enjoy. Why not dive straight into the Halloween spirit and come carve your own pumpkin with the kids, creating your own scary faces….or explore the grounds to find our hidden pumpkins for a chocolate treat. New in 2015, the Phantom Raspberry Blower will be lurking around, but be careful, he may jump out and raspberry you during the day or at our daily raspberry blowing competition where you can win fun prizes. 10 – Children’s Halloween Fancy Dress Party, Palm House, Sefton Park

How about busting some moves with Skeleton’s and Warewolves at Sefton Park’s stunning Palm House? There’s a disco with face painters, creepy crawlies, spiders and snakes, DJ, fancy dress competition and lots of spooky goings on. Running from 5-7pm, Oct 31 – Nov 1. 11 – Newsham Park. Traditional Halloween Walk

Discover the fascinating myths, legends and traditions around Halloween in this event for all the family. Meeting on the corner opposite the police station on West Derby Road this wicked walk runs from 11am, October 31st and is free to attend. A great way to blow away the cobwebs before an evening of trick or treating when it goes dark! Call 0151 233 3007 for more details.

 

12 – Southport Pleasureland Happy Halloween
Following the success of the first SPL Happy Halloween experience last year, the team are looking forward to welcoming you back to the UK’s Happy Halloween capital! The event will open on Saturday 24th October and run until Friday 30th to coincide with half term holidays.
As always, the park will be free to enter so you can wander around and enjoy the sights and sounds, bats, wizards, characters and more pumpkins than you can poke a broomstick at! You can purchase your specially designed Happy Halloween Fun Card and lanyard and load it with tokens to use on rides, or just come and soak up the atmosphere, watch the free magic shows or enjoy a cup of witch’s brew in our coffee bars!

 

13 – Halloween Treats For All

We couldn’t write a Halloween round up and leave it at number 12 could me! So we’ve been on a little witch hunt of our own and found loads of affordable Halloween treats for pocket money prices to help your little ghouls look the part. First off, you cant go wrong with Home and Bargain! Costumes, face paints and sweets all under one roof, and try as we might, we can never seem to spend a tenner, its so cheap! Also check out Poundland for Haribo halloween Tangfastics that are great for grubby little vampire mitts knowcing at your door come October 31st!  If you’re stuck for an original costume this year, get yourselves down to Lili Bizarre, Richmond Street or Smiffy’s, Bold Street for some seriously scary outfits. Our fave is the mini Beetlejuice! (Just don’t say his name three times, ok?) Costumes, wigs, masks and face-paints galore!
