2018 is looking like it is going to be huge in Liverpool, as we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our Capital of Culture status, and today we’ve got news on one of the events that is set to take the city by storm,

Renowned outdoor arts producers, Walk the Plank, who produced both the opening and closing celebrations for Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture Year in 2008, has announced its exciting return to the city with Feast of Fire at St George’s, a sensational, seven-day spring celebration during Easter 2018, that will transform St John’s Gardens into a magical land of fire, music and art.

Based on the North West European tradition of lighting bonfires over Easter, this new mini-festival experience is sure to set imaginations alight with an atmospheric feast for the senses. Visitors will be able to get up close and feel the heat of spectacular fire-fuelled sculptural installations as they promenade through the historic gardens. Add to this a live performance soundtrack and artisan, flaming food and drink, and you have a must-see spectacular during the Easter break.

Feast of Fire is part of Liverpool 2018, a thrilling year-long programme which celebrates the city’s culture and creativity a decade on from European Capital of Culture.

John Wassell, co founder and creative producer for Walk the Plank, said:

“It is an honour to be asked to return to this amazing city as part of Liverpool’s 2018 programme. Walk the Plank have produced a range of outdoor events in Liverpool over the years, so it holds a special place in our hearts.  For 2018 we’re delighted to be returning to Liverpool with a brand new event that is designed to appeal to people of all ages.  It will be a fantastic new way to say goodbye to winter and to welcome in spring”

Councillor Wendy Simon, Assistant Mayor and Cabinet Member for culture, tourism and events added:

“Feast of Fire is set to be a magical event that visitors of all ages will be able to enjoy and we’re delighted it will be part of next year’s exciting anniversary programme.

“Although there will be a nod to 2008 next year, it’s our aim to showcase brand new, engaging events, proving, once again, why we have an outstanding reputation when it comes to culture. We invited Walk the Plank to devise an event which will hopefully become a legacy of 2018 and we look forward to seeing their creation which is sure to be beautiful and inspiring, all the time complimenting the beautiful backdrop of St George’s Hall. ”
