From Baking to Bikini Competitions – Meet Miss Liverpool 2022 who’s on a mission for the Miss GB crown
2 years ago
26-year-old entrepreneur Jess from Childwall is the current Miss Liverpool GB and is hoping to win the Miss Great Britain crown in October.
Jess has a degree in Marketing from the University of Chester, is a fully qualified Padi open water scuba diver and she is the co-director of her own business, Oh My Cheesecake, creators of the UK’s First Cheesecake On A Stick concept. After working long hours in the hospitality industry just before covid hit, Jess decided to use her time during covid lockdowns to grow her business with her partner from a small box room at home. When the time came to go back to work full time, she decided to take the plunge and go self-employed with the lockdown business.
“Like many people, I was so fed up with my daily routine, working long hours and having no social life or much control of my work life balance. I was so concerned about trying to work harder to prove myself to my managers. When I had the opportunity to work for myself and give this a go, I thought ‘what’s the worst that could happen’! So, I gave it a go and here I am’’.
Jess opened her first Oh My Cheesecake shop in Lancashire in October 2021 and now employs five members of staff. “We have such a huge Liverpool following because this is my home! We have customers travel from Liverpool to Lancashire just for our products. We are looking to open our next shop in Liverpool, but we are still looking for the right premises.”
The Miss Great Britain final is taking place in Leicester from 19th-21st October and will include a two-minute interview where finalists get to talk to the judging panel about how they would like to use the title of Miss Great Britain. The final also includes the following rounds: Talent, Beach Body, Charity, Publicity and Public Vote.
Jess wants to inspire other young women to work for themselves and take control of their careers. “Working for yourself isn’t talked about enough to young people. Some of the most successful women in the world are entrepreneurs, and I’d like to be able inspire young people to start their own business.”
Jess said: “I am really excited to have been chosen as a finalist for Miss Great Britain this year and I’ve already enjoyed the social aspect of the competition. The contestants have regular chats on Facebook and WhatsApp full of positivity! Miss Great Britain is Britain’s longest running pageant held annually in Britain since 1945, it’s an honour to be a part of it!
