21 Things to do with the kids this half term in Liverpool

Ready for another half term break on Merseyside? We’re got loads of boredom-busting activities for you.


We’re ready for the last school break before the summer with a whole host of activities and lots of them are free. Crafternoons, VR gaming, farm visits, film screenings, skate parks, safari adventures and more await. River Festival Liverpool brings family fun to the waterfront while The Worst Witch weaves her magic at the Playhouse.

There’s something for kids of all ages happening this half term in Liverpool and it’s super easy and affordable to get around with Merseyrail too. Scroll down for more.

Here’s 21 things to do with the kids this half term in Liverpool…


1 – Take A Walk on the Wild Side, Knowsley Safari

When it comes to keeping your little monkeys entertained during half term, a day out at Knowsley Safari should be your first stop. Alongside the 5 mile safari drive, you can check out the foot safari, see tigers, sea lion shows, fair rides, tasty and affordable family meals and lots more. Book online and find out more here. 

2 – The Worst Witch, Liverpool Playhouse

Broomsticks at the ready as Mildred Hubble and an all-female cast will fly into Liverpool Playhouse for five nights this half term. The family production of The Worst Witch is showing from 28th May to 1st June 2019. Tickets here. 

4 – Hatch Your Own Dinosaur, Liverpool ONE

If your kids are Dinosaur mad you have to get down to Liverpool ONE and check out Dinosaura Unleashed. Download the free app, hunt down a giant egg and watch the augmented reality magic happen as your very own dinosaur comes to life. More info here. 

4 – Mersey Ferries & Spaceport Family Trip

How about this for a brilliant half term deal in Liverpool. For just £42.50 (family ticket) you can enjoy a River Cruise and entrance into Spaceport and The U Boat Story over in Seacombe. Fun, fresh air days out sorted! More info and booking here. 

5 – Rampworx Skatepark

This is a great way to burn off some steam on a rainy day! Rampworx, Leckwith Road is a huge indoor skate park that allows kids to get an adrenaline rush in a safe but fun environment. Session times here. 

6 – River Festival Liverpool

Tall ships, live music, street theatre, incredible works of art and a replica of our earth suspended in Liverpool Cathedral, yep River Festival Liverpool is back! Saturday 1st -Sunday 2nd June, Liverpool Waterfront is the place to be. All the info here. 

7 – Beat Sabre Battle, VR Here

One for the older kids. VR Here, Liverpool’s very own dedicated VR centre now has Beat Sabre on offer alongside heaps of other amazing games. Facebook reviews rave about this place, so why not check it out this half term. Info here. 

8 – Liver Bird Hats & Badge Craft, Museum of Liverpool

Saturday 25th May is all about getting crafty at Museum of Liverpool. Fancy creating your own Liver Bird hat or badge? Get down there from 1:30pm til 4pm and go wild with the glue sticks! Free entry. Info here. 

9 – The Amazing Adventures of Pinocchio, Epstein Theatre

There’s a larger than life, musical adaptation of Disney classic, Pinocchio at the Epstein Theatre on Tuesday 28th May. This 2pm show is a great family activity that involves audience interaction, comedy and songs we all know and love. Tickets here. 

10 – Rita Ora, M&S Bank Arena

How’s this for a good behaviour bargaining chip? Rita Ora plays the M&S Bank Arena on Bank Holiday Monday, so treat the kids in return for a week of peace! Some tickets remaining here. 

11 – Mattel Play Autism Sessions, Royal Albert Dock

Tickets are half price at just ÂŁ7 for children with two carers attending free of charge at Mattel Play on 29th May. If your little one has Autism and loves Fireman Sam, Bob the Builder or Thomas the Tank Engine, head to the Albert Dock to play and explore for less. Tickets and info here.

12 – In The Night Garden, Floral Pavilion

Little ones will be spellbound as In The Night Garden comes to life at New Brighton’s Floral Pavilion on Tuesday 4th June. Shows are at 1pm and 4pm and tickets start at ÂŁ16.50 for kids. Book yours here.

13 – Otterspool Adventure Centre

Did you know its free for kids to play on the wooden adventure playground at Otterspool? It costs just ÂŁ6 (off peak) to gain access to the bouncy pillows, Volvo Diggers and Maze and there’s the cafĂ© and Ice Cream Barn to grab a bite to eat too. Book online here.

15 – Wallace & Gromit, M&S Bank Arena

16 – Croxteth Park Farm

Spring is by bar the most exciting time to visit the Merseyside region farms and Croxteth Park Farm has some new faces too. Lambs, goats and chicks are all adjusting to their new surroundings and it’s just ÂŁ13 for a family pass! Make a day of it. More info here. 

17 – Shiver Me Timbers, Maritime Museum

Head down to Merseyside Maritime Museum on 30th May to hear all about life on the high seas in a swashbuckling live performance from a real pirate! Shows are at 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm. More info here. 

18 – Central Park Carnival, Wallasey

Central Park, Wallasey welcomes a Carnival fair on 26th and 27th May. Expect old fashioned carnival fun with donkey rides, stalls, games, rides and food and drink. More info here. 

19 – China Butterfly Craft Centre

Father’s Day is just around the corner so why not let the kids get creative at Formby’s China Butterfly Craft Centre and give Dad a gift he can cherish? Kids can paint their own mugs, plates and more. Info and booking here. 

20 – Victoria Gallery Free Family Workshops

There’s a number of free, drop in sessions on offer at the Victoria Gallery & Museum this half term. From crafty activities to film screenings (Ralph Breaks the Internet – 25th May) to exploring ancient Egypt at nearby Garstang Museum. Plan your visit here.

21 – Anfield Celebrations

Half Term

On Wednesday 29th May Anfield Children’s Centre is holding a free to attend party afternoon from 1pm. Expect face painting, party games, food, entertainment and lots more. Find out more here.
