Borealis - Royal Albert Dock

From Thursday, 20 March, for 10 nights, visitors can witness this breathtaking recreation of the Northern Lights, set in the iconic Royal Albert Dock.

Royal Albert Dock will transform into a mesmerising spectacle as Dan Acher’s world-renowned art installation, Borealis, arrives in the city for the first time.

Taking place along Hartley Quay past The Pump House, Borealis will illuminate the skies from 7.00pm – 10.00pm each evening, offering a unique and ever-changing visual experience.

With the elements of the weather having the final say on the effects of the artwork, each evening will promise a unique visual experience depending on the wind variations, humidity and temperature.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Building will indicate the starting point of the installation, with visitors encouraged to walk along Hartley Quay and marvel at the captivating installation overhead for the optimal viewing experience.

The dock’s variety of impressive food and drink venues are ideal for visitors looking to enhance their Borealis experience with a meal, light bite or post event cocktail. Head to Gusto for authentic Italian food including freshly made pizzas and pasta, Delhi House for a warming curry, or sip on a vibrant Berry Caipirinha cocktail at Revolucion de Cuba.

For a light bite to tuck into whilst out and about, the dock boasts a variety of grab and go options which can be enjoyed whilst walking around the colonnades. Both The One O’clock Gun and Francie’s Focaccia & Coffee will take over two dock pop-up cabins next to the Martin Luther King Jr. building.

Open from 5-10pm each evening, they’ll be offering warming pots of Scouse from The One O’clock Gun and limited edition Borealis Special Hot Chocolates with green and pink chocolate shavings from Francie’s, along with colourful sweet Cannolis.

Alternatively, three of the dock’s popular street food trucks will be re-located near to the main entrance of the dock, so peckish visitors can pick everything from a freshly made Souvlaki from So Greek Full to authentic Turkish street food from Bu & Co.
