Here’s how to enjoy bank holiday weekend in Liverpool on the cheap
7 years ago
We’re lining up a whole weekend’s worth of fun stuff for all the family that won’t break the bank.
They say the best things in life are free and on a rare sunny bank holiday weekend, they couldn’t be more right! Merseyside is blessed with miles of sandy beaches, parks and waterfront paths to while away the hours and with some cheap dining deals, picnic hacks and summer discounts, a day out for all the family needn’t cost the earth. The sun is set to shine all weekend, so let the good times roll!
Here’s three days worth of cheap and cheerful fun ideas…….
1 – Meet some new Folks on the Dock
There’s a three day long FREE festival happening down on Albert Dock this weekend and it’s jam packed with local, national and international artists! Folk on the Dock brings together the very best in folk, roots and acoustic music and celebrates its maritime history, right on our world-class waterfront. Check out the line up here.
2 – Party in the park
Chuck some butties in a bag, grab a bottle of lemo (and a few tinnies or a bottle of gin) and your bluetooth speaker and have your own party in the park. We love the grassy banks in Sefton Park, perfect for rolling down and people watching people around the lake.
3 – Get a taste of Brazil
It’s gonna be hot in the city this weekend so why not grab a cool lunch deal from Santa Maluco, Castle Street? Offering up a drink and a slice for just £5, you can choose from tonnes of options and dine outside in the sun too. (PS, Kids under 10 eat free before 5pm too). More info here.
4 – Garden Party at Stanley Park
Stanley Park’s Summer Garden Party returns on Saturday 26th August for a day of free activities and live entertainment. From 12pm-3pm, visitors will be able to enjoy a wide variety of activities for all ages, including a wide range of crafts, martial arts, yoga and wildlife workshops and even a teddy bears picnic. Find out more here.
5 – Catch the train and explore the Wirral Way
It can cost as little as £1.95 for return travel on the Merseyrail network, so why not catch a train and explore somewhere new such as the Wirral Way? With trains from Chester to Liverpool, Wirral to Southport, there’s bound to be a museum, gallery, park or coffee shop you’ve not experienced before. More info here.
6 – Be a true Liver Bird at Baltic Triangle
Have you stumbled across the Liver Bird Wings street art yet? Why not take a stroll around the Baltic Triangle, maybe grab a coffee, a haircut, a cupcake or a yoga session, before taking your place in front of these majestic wings for a Instagram-worthy pic? Find out more here.
7 – Head to The Hamptons at The Club House, L1
Head to The Club House on Sunday 29th August for a free music festival on the lawn where the L1VE music stage will be set up from 12:45. You don’t need any other reason to sit out in the beautiful outdoor area with a delicious drink and a selection of nibbles if you’re peckish! More info here.
8 – Take a walk on the wild side…in Formby
Again, save yourself a few pennies and pack a picnic before heading up to Formby Beach for some fun on the shore. With fine weather predicted you can dine among the pine forest, spot some red squirrels, burn off your lunch running up and down the sand dunes and all you need is a few quid for an ice cream! Check out the National Trust website here.
9 – Sunset at Fort Perch Rock
Whether you’ve got kids or not, a walk along the sea front at Marine Point, New Brighton to watch the last of the summer sunsets can be pretty darn magical, regardless of what age you are! Take a wander around to Fort Perch Rock and watch the sun go down out over the Mersey estuary. If you’re lucky, you might just catch our stunning Liver Building bathed in the last of the summer rays. Ahhhhh. More on Marine Point here.
10 – Belting beer deals at Bierkeller, L1
Fancy a few drinks but not feeling too flush? Head down to Bierkeller at Liverpool One this Sunday where it’s 2 for £5 on all bottled beer, 2-4-1 steins and it’s just £2.50 for a single spirit and mixer. Easy like Sunday Bank Holiday! More info available here.
