Heroic volunteer to swim 15 km in aid of Lord Mayor’s Charity, the Choir With No Name

Max Wall, of Jayne Moore Media, will swim an incredible 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) around Liverpool’s iconic Kings Dock on the 22nd September, to raise money for the Choir With No Name charity.

One of the Lord Mayor’s chosen charities, the Choir With No Name runs sessions for the homeless and vulnerable, offering them guidance and support, as well as a safe haven away from the streets.

With four choirs in the UK, the Choir with No Name operates in London, Birmingham and Liverpool, with the Liverpool branch rehearsing once a week in the Bluecoat, School Lane.

A keen amateur swimmer, Max swam 10 kilometers for the charity last year, raising over £1,100. However, after a busy 12 months in the pool, he has high hopes that his feat of endurance will surpass that figure this time around.

Max Wall, operations director at Jayne Moore Media, said:

“The Choir With No Name is a fantastic charity and I am proud to volunteer for them, in the process supporting one of the Lord Mayor’s charities. Giving those on the edge of society the chance to connect and feel valued is incredible, and every pound donated from this swim, will go a very long way to helping the charity go from strength to strength in the future.

“I swam 10 kilometers in open water for the Choir With No Name last year, and although I was exhausted by the end of it, raising over £1,000 for such a worthy cause was a feeling that I will never, ever forget.

“Practicing in the Kings Dock on a regular basis, I feel fitter and stronger than ever and I am now ready to tackle the 15 kilometers, with sustenance during my swim the key this time!”

As well as the Choir With No Name, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Malcolm Kennedy is also a proud supporter of The Owen McVeigh Foundation, All Together Now Magazine and the ADHD Foundation, with all four charity’s receiving increased exposure throughout 2017.

Thankful for the many volunteers that raise money for his local charities, Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Malcolm Kennedy, commented:

“The Choir With No Name is one of my chosen charities, as they do fantastic work within the local community, to benefit those that need help the most. As with all non-for-profit organisations, they rely on the help of their volunteers, and it is fantastic to see that this swim will be taking place, to hopefully raise a lot of money, which can then be used to aid those less fortunate in Liverpool.”

Ensuring that the Choir With No Name raises the maximum amount of money possible, HSBC Liverpool has also pledged to match the final figure up to the total of £1,000.

Since 2016, HSBC Bank plc and HSBC Holdings plc has made more than £29,100,000 in charitable donations to charities, with a number of local causes close to their hearts.

Gavin Lynch, relationship manager at HSBC Liverpool, said:

“We are always happy to support local charities and Max’s swim is something that really grabbed our attention when we heard about it. To swim 15 kilometers takes dedication, stamina and a lot of heart; and because of this, HSBC Liverpool is delighted to announce that it will be cheering Max on from the first minute until the last.”

Ema Quinn, choir manager at the Choir With No Name, said:

“We are very proud of Max and eternally grateful for the fundraising work he has done for us over the last 18 months. We’d like to thank him for doing this swim for our charity, and we will be giving him all the support we can, to make sure he is ready for his big swim.”

The Liverpool Watersports Centre will also aid Max on the day of the swim, by supplying a kayaker to help the event go ‘swimmingly’. Located adjacent to the Kings Dock, the centre has played a huge role in helping prepare for the charitable event on the 22nd.
