Islamic Relief UK and LFC Foundation to help struggling families as they prepare for Eid

On Friday, April 29, Islamic Relief UK will partner with LFC Foundation and Liverpool Mosque Regions Network (LRM net) to distribute 500 essential food packs to vulnerable people as they prepare for Eid, which marks the end of the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.

The packs will be prepared and distributed in time for Eid, so families can enjoy the festivities without worrying about being able to afford food. An additional 500 packs of Eid decorations will also be donated by EidParty.co.uk

The increasing cost of living is pushing families into poverty and Liverpool has seen a stark rise in families needing financial assistance and help with food. Across the five parliamentary constituencies in the city, there is a total of 31,739 children deemed to be growing up in poverty – with figures rising.

Many people have also been hit hard by the pandemic, including, low-income families, those suffering from domestic abuse, the homeless, asylum seekers and refugees who were already struggling to feed themselves and many prioritising eating or heating as they struggle to pay their bills.

To help some of the most vulnerable, boxes will be packed with essentials by LFC staff at Anfield, before delivery alongside LRM net to locations across the city.

The food packs will contain 17 items including, halal chicken, rice, pasta, eggs, beans, butter and bread –alongside sanitary products such as shampoo, toothpaste, hand wash, shower gel and more.

Matt Parish, LFC Foundation Chief Executive, said:

“We continue to work alongside Islamic Relief UK and Liverpool Mosque Regions Network to support local families experiencing food poverty. We know that many people across our city region are struggling financially especially as the cost of living continues to rise and we want to help where possible.”

Tufail Hussain, Director of Islamic Relief UK said:

“As the cost of living crisis in the UK takes hold, it is pushing an increasing number of families deeper into poverty. We are seeing more and more people struggling every day.

“Many families will be looking forward to the Muslim festival of Eid which marks the end of Ramadan. We want to ensure that people have enough food as they celebrate this occasion.

“We are proud to be working with Liverpool FC Foundation and the Liverpool Mosque Regions Network to reach some of the most vulnerable in Liverpool. We thank them for their incredible work to help those struggling.”
