Jubilee Bank Holiday: 17 events happening in Liverpool and Wirral

The big four-day Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee is nearly here and, as well as street parties, there are lots of parties and other special events going on.

If you’re lucky enough to have a couple of extra days off work, get your union flag bunting ready because here are 14 events happening in Liverpool and Wirral for the Jubilee…

A ‘Not-so-secret’ Garden Party at the Aigburth Arms

Jubilee Bank Holiday

The Aigburth Arms is promising a right Royal knees-up in its big new beer garden with a Jubilee Party Weekender. It starts with Bank Holiday beers on Thursday, live music from Tom Crofts from 8pm on Friday, a mobile petting zoo for kids from 4pm on Saturday and a DJ from 7pm, and Party Bingo from 6pm on Sunday.

The Royal Weekender at Royal Albert Dock

Jubilee Bank Holiday

The dock’s putting red, white and blue flags out on Saturday and Sunday for a Jubilee Bank Holiday of live music from 14 of Liverpool’s best emerging artists including headliners The Sundowners. Stages will be in front of the Martin Luther King Jr. Building, in Mermaid Courtyard next to the Liverpool Mountain, and on the Brocklebank boat which will be moored on the inner quayside of Merseyside Maritime Museum.

Jubilee Afternoon Tea at Oh Me Oh My

OH ME OH MY

Afternoon teas at Oh Me Oh My on Water Street are always gorgeous and on Sunday they’re laying on a special Jubilee Bank Holiday version in honour of HM. From 12pm to 3.30pm there’ll be regal quantities of tea, cake and lots of fizz – advance booking is needed.

Beacon lighting and a Big Picnic at Liverpool Cathedral

This Thursday, Liverpool Cathedral will join in the national Platinum Jubilee celebrations with a beacon lighting on the Rankin Porch steps, where the Queen traditionally enters the building. The Cathedral choir will sing from 9.30pm before the beacon is lit at 9.45pm and the choir sings ‘A Life Lived with Grace’ by Chinemelu. On Sunday, there’ll be an all-age family service at starting at 3.45pm followed by the Big Picnic street party inside the cathedral with giant games like snakes and ladders, skittles and quoits, crafts and a trail.

Platinum Picnic at Port Sunlight

Jubilee Bank Holiday

The Museum Green, next to Port Sunlight Museum and the Lady Lever, is having a Platinum Picnic on Sunday from 12pm to 6pm. The free event will feature local bands The Port Sunlight Sea Dogs, The Get Back Beats, and The Swing Era Jazz Band, hosted by compere Graeme White, plus food and drink stalls and vintage fair rides.

Platinum Jubilee celebration at Allerton Manor Golf Club

Fletcher’s Beer Garden at Allerton Manor will be hosting a Jubilee Bank Holiday party on Friday with live music throughout the day from the Deltatones plus a special afternoon tea menu with beers, G&Ts and prosecco. Tables of four, six and eight can be booked, from 12pm until close.

Jubilee Picnic at Birkenhead Priory

There’s a family-friendly jubilee day out at Birkenhead Priory on Saturday from 11am until 3pm. There’ll be activities including jewellery and crafts, and face painting for kids, as well as music from Wirral Samba and Wirral’s 3Ls Choir, and a visit from a vintage bus from Wirral Transport Museum. You can bring your own picnic or there’s food stalls and Start Yard’s cafe.

Fizz and cocktails from the Royal pop-up bar at Titanic Hotel

Toast the Queen’s 70 years with a glass of fizz overlooking Stanley Dock from a Royal pop-up bar, custom-made from an urban classic bike and sponsored by Lanson Champagne, or go for a Dubonnet and gin, Her Majesty’s favourite cocktail, made especially for occasion by bartenders from Stanley’s Bar and Grill.  Keep it traditionally British with complimentary strawberries and ice cream in union flag pots while you watch coverage of the jubilee in Titanic’s VIP room.

Queen’s Jubilee Afternoon Tea at New Brighton Floral Pavilion

There’s a right Royal afternoon tea being served at the Floral Pavilion on Saturday and Sunday, at 12pm and 3pm. Go for the regular, with a choice of teas, or add a bit of fizz with a mini bottle or full bottle of Bottega Gold or Castelli prosecco, along with sandwiches – including Coronation chicken, of course – plus homemade scones, cakes and pastries.

Platinum Jubilee Event at Court Hey Park

Court Hey Park

Get the big weekend off to an early start with a family jubilee day at the park on Wednesday from 12pm to 3pm. Friends of Court Hey Park have organised live music, refreshments, face painting, circus skills, a trail, bouncy castle, colouring/crafts and games, and a raffle. There’ll also be a best homemade crown competition, a bike sale by MerseyCycle and a seed giveaway by Incredible Edible.

The Queen’s Jubil-Tea at the Malmaison

The Mal is celebrating the jubilee in fine style with a special afternoon tea dedicated to Her Majesty on Saturday from 1pm. It includes a glass of English fizz on arrival, afternoon tea with a jubilee cocktail and live entertainment throughout the day.

Heswall Jubilee Fete

Queen's Platinum Jubilee

This Sunday, Heswall Jubilee Fete will be bringing some Royal family fun to Puddydale from 10am onwards. It’s free to go and there’ll be food, drink, stalls from local businesses, classic cars, a bouncy castle, face painting, Medivet dog show and live music.

The Big Jubilee Weekend at Liverpool ONE

Liverpool ONE is celebrating the jubilee with a weekend of music, performances and entertainment. Saturday and Sunday will have street bands, choirs, performers and dancers from 12pm – 4pm.  John Lewis has a circus spectacular on Thursday at 11.30am and 1.15pm from Bring the Fire Project, and cabaret from Nana Funk at 1.30pm inside the store.

Dirty Jubilee Afternoon Tea with booze and drag queens at Yard & Coop

If dainty little sandwiches and Earl Grey aren’t quite your thing then maybe head over to Yard & Coop on Friday for a God Save the Queens afternoon tea like no other. Ditch the scones and go for tiers of buttermilk fried chicken wings, fries, Kinder Bueno cookie pie, brownies, marshmallows and strawberries.

Red Door Jubilee party with a difference

Red Door on Berry Street are hosting a Jubilee party with a difference this weekend. It is inviting Liverpool’s Drag artists to join the celebrations and those in costume will receive a complimentary Candy Girl cocktail. With a full schedule of live music and entertainment planned for the three days and bottles of Prosecco for £20 until 10pm, the scene is set to make the most of the extra bank holiday and the sunshine at Liverpool’s most popular bar.
