LFC champion Pride in Liverpool Festival 2019

Liverpool FC will show its colours in support of this year’s Pride in Liverpool festival with a host of activities taking place across the Club.

The Reds are a proud sponsor of this year’s Pride in Liverpool festival, in what will be the Club’s seventh year supporting Pride, which celebrates the LGBT+ community.

Pride in Liverpool will be delivered by LCR Pride Foundation, a new organisation established this year to extend the message of Pride across the Liverpool City Region and outside the annual Pride festival.

LFC was the first Premier League football club to take part in a Pride march back in 2012, which was well supported by employees, supporters and the local community.

This year’s Pride in Liverpool festival will take place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July and the theme for the programme of events, cultural and community activities is “Come as You Are”.

The theme calls to all people, regardless of where they are from or how they identify, to take pride in their identity and come together in the spirit of friendship, love and respect.

Anfield’s famous Kop will be joining many other iconic buildings across the city to be lit up each night in the colours of the rainbow flag from Saturday 20th July.

LFC’s retail store in Williamson Square has a Pride themed window display in the run up to the festival that will remain in place until Monday 29th July. During the Pride in Liverpool weekend the store will also have face glittering and pride stickers available for free in store.

The Club’s official charity, LFC Foundation, held its second annual Pride tournament at Anfield Sports and Community Centre earlier this month, teams from across the city including Liverpool Homeless FC, The Brink and Mersey Marauders coming together to celebrate football and togetherness in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

Supported by the LCR Pride Foundation, the event aimed to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and promote health and well-being throughout the community in the build up to the Liverpool Pride Festival.

On Saturday July 27th, LFC’s CEO, Peter Moore will lead Club staff and their families at the march alongside Kop Outs, an LGBT+ fan group for Liverpool fans, and the wider community in celebration of the LGBT+ community.

Reds staff will be marching in LFC t-shirts which they have customised themselves in the festival’s theme of ‘ComeAsYouAre.’

Peter Moore, CEO at Liverpool FC, said: “Our Club is very passionate about, and committed to the promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion with our staff, players and supporters.

“We are proud to be the first football club to receive the Premier League Equality Standard Advanced Level for our equality and diversity work both within the Club and the wider community.

“It’s therefore important for us to continue our support of Liverpool Pride and I am delighted to again be taking part in the march alongside my colleagues.”

LCR Pride Foundation Co-Founder, John Bird, added: “LFC has led the way in its support for the LGBT+ community in Liverpool and beyond, through the global reach of its brand. Their sponsorship of Pride in Liverpool makes them one of just a handful of UK Premier League football clubs to sponsor a Pride event, and we look forward to marching alongside their representatives on Saturday 27th July.”

’47 in collaboration with LFC have a range of Pride themed t-shirts and caps that are available in selected stores and online now. A donation will be made to the LCR Pride Foundation from the proceeds of this collection.
