The iconic Hairpsray The Musical heads up a hot August at the iconic Liverpool Empire Theatre on Lime Street – but the high summer month will also play host to two Liverpool Empire Youth Theatre productions: Spring Awakening and Bring It On…

Liverpool Empire Youth Theatre presents Spring Awakening

Liverpool Empire Youth Theatre’s senior participant group present Spring Awakening, told by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater through “the most gorgeous Broadway score this decade” (Entertainment Weekly). Spring Awakening explores the journey from adolescence to adulthood with poignancy and passion that is illuminating and unforgettable. The landmark musical is an electrifying fusion of morality, sexuality and rock & roll that exhilarates any audience lucky enough to see it. Spring Awakening is originally the winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Liverpool Empire Youth Theatre presents Bring It On The Musical

Bitingly relevant, sprinkled with sass, and inspired by the hit film, Bring It On The Musical takes audiences on a high-flying journey that is filled with the complexities of friendship, jealousy, betrayal and forgiveness. With a colourful assortment of characters, an exciting fresh sound and explosive choreography this hilarious, universal story is sure to be everything that you hoped for and nothing like you expected – with music by Tom Kitt & Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Hairspray The Musical

Hairspray took Broadway by storm, winning 8 Tony awards back in the day, and the production went on to win four Olivier awards in the West End, and multiple awards worldwide. The prescient and feel-good classic is back for summer 2024, starring Neil Hurst (The Full Monty, Coronation Street) as Edna Turnblad and, making her directorial debut, Hairspray royalty Brenda Edwards. Featuring some of musical theatre’s biggest hit songs (Welcome to the 60s, You Can’t Stop the Beat, Good Morning Baltimore and many more), Hairspray is the hilarious, joyous and inspiring musical for all…

Sing-a-Long-a Matilda (2pm) and Sing-a-long-a Dirty Dancing (7pm)

Like singing along at the theatre? This is your chance. Two classic films playing on the big screen with the audience as co-stars! It couldn’t be easier or more fun: the first rule of Sing-a-long-a is THERE ARE NO RULES! Fancy dress is strongly encouraged and full audience participation essential. Bring the kids in the afternoon and come back in the evening for more fun. Nobody puts Mum in the corner…

The Music of Fleetwood Mac by Candlelight

Featuring a cast of West End singers and a live band, this will be a concert jam-packed with hits. It’s Fleetwood Mac favourites as you have never heard them before – featuring best-loved songs including ‘Little Lies’, ‘The Chain’, ‘Rhiannon’, ‘Don’t Stop’ and many more, performed by candlelight.
