Liverpool girls are representing Everton and England at the Street Child World Cup in Mexico
1 hour ago
Ten young girls from the Liverpool City Region are heading onto the world stage this week as they represent Everton in the Community and Team England at the 2026 Street Child World Cup in Mexico City.
The global tournament, organised by Street Child United, brings together young people from across the world for a powerful mix of football, arts and youth-led discussions, all focused on championing the rights of street-connected children.
The Everton squad has been selected from the charity’s Children and Youth Services programmes, with the girls spending the past year preparing for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
They’ve also had support from Everton Women players Courtney Brosnan and Katja Snoeijs, who’ve helped guide them on their journey.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, goalkeeper Courtney said football has the power to bring people together and shine a light on important issues, something that sits right at the heart of both Everton in the Community and the Street Child World Cup.
The team set off from the UK at the weekend and have now arrived in Mexico City, ready to compete against teams from across the globe.
The tournament kicks off with qualifiers on 9 May, followed by group stages across the weekend, before the final takes place on 14 May.
As well as competing on the pitch, the girls will take part in a wider programme of events designed to give young people a voice and create real change.
The trip has been made possible thanks to support from the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association, helping give Liverpool’s young players the chance to represent their city, and their country on a global stage.
