Liverpool hotels hit record breaking performance figures off the back of Grand National and LFC success

Lifted by Liverpool FC’s success, the return of the Grand National, the world’s most famous horse race and the appeal of the city’s leisure offer, Liverpool’s hotel sector reported its highest monthly room rates on record, according to April 2022 data.

Room rates averaged over £100 for the first time ever and represent an important milestone in the recovery of the city’s visitor economy continuing a positive trend over the last 3 months.

The data reinforces positive sentiment across the sector of strong recovery amid the backdrop of new hotel developments opening later in the year.

LFC Victory Parade

Chris Brown, Director of Marketing Liverpool, said:

“This is fantastic news and a really positive sign of the city’s bounce back after the pandemic.

Liverpool FC’s amazing season in all competitions culminating with the fantastic parade at the weekend and the return of the Aintree Festival are obvious highlights but this new data is another tangible sign of the overall appeal of the city.

It’s a real catalyst for the summer season ahead, but we recognise the squeeze on consumers so we will be working with local and national partners to maintain the momentum of our recovery and keep the profile and appeal of the city high for national and international visitors.”

Grand National 2022

Cllr Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy commented:

“The city’s visitor economy was very badly affected by the pandemic so it’s really encouraging to see these very positive results for our hoteliers. Events like this weekend’s parade demonstrate why the city has a reputation for being one of the most exciting and vibrant cities in the UK.”

Laura Pye, Chair of Liverpool City Region Visitor Economy Board commented:

“These results demonstrate the appeal of the city’s leisure offer and the importance of major events. With the openings of Shakespeare North Playhouse and Eureka! Science + Discovery plus great events and exhibitions like the Doctor Who Exhibition, The Tudors, The Turner Prize, River of Light and World Gymnastics Championships to come we are confident that the city and city region can maintain its post pandemic recovery.”
