Ma Boyle’s celebrate 10 years of jazz nights with brilliant local lineup
2 hours ago

The opening weekend of October is going to be celebration of all things jazz at Ma Boyle’s in Liverpool.
Not only is a brand-new Friday jazz weekly – the Latin social Jazz Club – launching on Friday 3rd October, but Jazz Saturdays celebrates its 10th birthday the day after on Saturday 4th October. This means every weekend at Ma Boyle’s will be infused with sensational jazz sounds. All dates will be free to attend, with bookings advised to secure a table.
Reaching ten years of the beloved weekly Jazz Saturdays from Parrjazz – the Liverpool-based promoters and authority of all things Jazz in the city – is a huge achievement as the city’s longest running jazz weekly. The enduring session has transformed local love for vibrant and varied sounds, with many jazz icons dropping in over the years. Famous artists who have performed at Jazz Saturdays include Mica Paris, Sid Jacobs, Baiana, Sue Rynhart and Daniel John Martin.

Iain Hoskins, Ma Pub Group’s owner, said:
“We’re all tremendously proud to reach 10 years of Jazz Saturdays at Ma Boyle’s. Which also marks 10 years for Ma Boyle’s under my ownership. When we brought Ma Boyle’s back from closure in 2015, I took inspiration from jazz bars in New York – and this became a focus which we rebuilt the business around – switching out karaoke nights for the live jazz sessions. It was a labour of love initially, when we first opened in 2015, most of Water Street was unoccupied and Castle Street was still full of banks – not bars! It took a while to drag people down – and probably a good couple of years for the Saturdays to really establish themselves. I really couldn’t imagine Ma Boyle’s without our Saturday jazz nights, its’ integral to what we do. We’ve got a very special relationship with Geni Lamb at Parrjazz who’s worked tirelessly on programming our Saturdays over the past decade. Jazz Saturdays really has created a haven for jazz lovers in the city, and now with Latin Jazz Social Club on Fridays there’s a great selection of jazz sounds across the spectrum each weekend at Ma’s.”
Geni said:
“It’s fantastic to be celebrating ten years at Ma Boyle’s with the launch of our brand-new Latin Jazz Social Club on Friday October 3rd and our special 10th anniversary event on Saturday October 4th. We made the decision to make Ma Boyle’s Parrjazz’s only regular free-entry event because of the incredible support and passion that Iain and the Ma Boyle’s team show towards live music. They genuinely love and prioritise the music and are part of the recipe that creates what I call Liverpool’s Saturday Night Jazz Oasis. We’re looking forward to an exciting year, with great music, great vibes and world class guests – and not forgetting Ma’s delicious Blind Scouse!”
The launch of Latin Jazz Social Club on Friday 3rd October is the day before Jazz Saturday’s 10th Birthday celebrations. The new Latin-jazz night features the best of Cuban, Brazilian and Latin-jazz, with the North’s finest jazz musicians showcasing the best Cuban rhythms, samba and bossa nova jazz genres. October’s lineup includes Cuba Vida, Hamilton Luduvice, Mambo Collective, Martino Ferriero and Samba and The Chips.
And to celebrate ten years of Jazz Saturdays on Saturday October 4th, there’s a special extended set from Geni Lamb and the Parrjazz House Bandits. Their set will include guest appearances from the Parrjazz repertoire of guests and residents over the recent years who have all helped create the enduring and much-loved weekly session.
