Ma Boyle’s flips to victory in this year’s Liverpool Pancake Race
36 minutes ago

Flippin’ fantastic news as Ma Boyle’s has finally reclaimed the Liverpool Pancake Race crown, winning the city’s annual Shrove Tuesday showdown for the first time in five years.
Sebastian Wojton, a first-time participant, proved to be a pancake pro, beating the competition to claim victory in the Liverpool Pancake Race.
The race saw six chefs from Liverpool’s top restaurants go head-to-head in a three-lap challenge, where they had to:
- Add three different toppings per lap
- Complete three pancake flips at designated stations
- Sprint to the finish without losing their pancake
Former champion Alex Hopkins from Lunya, who had won an impressive hat-trick of races, retired this year and took on a coaching role.

Other competitors included representatives from:
- Titanic Hotel
- Tempest on Tithebarn
- The Pen Factory
- Halyard

The Liverpool Pancake Race, held in the gardens of Liverpool Parish Church, is organised by Liverpool BID Company. First launched in the 1980s, the event was revived in the 2000s and has since become a much-loved annual tradition.
This is no yolk for the chefs who take part, as they compete not only for bragging rights but also for the coveted engraved pancake pan, presented by Bill Addy, Reverend Canon at Liverpool Parish Church and CEO of Liverpool BID Company.
Sebastian Wojton secured the win while wearing Crocs.
Speaking before heading straight back to Ma Boyle’s lunch rush, Sebastian Wojton said:
“I am delighted. This felt like running on home ground for Ma Boyle’s.”
