Magical Christmas Light Walk launches at Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool

Head to the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and you can now embark on a magical Light Walk of the stunning Grade 1 listed buildings, the perfect family-friendly activity to brighten up winter nights on the run up to Christmas.

With evening strolls a popular pastime for many during current COVID restrictions, the dock’s stunning light installations take place across the whole estate with nearly 3 million lights, add an extra element of enjoyment which both adults and children can enjoy.

Before embarking on the enchanting trail, visitors can grab their favourite hot drink and head to the albertdock.com where a downloadable map will be available, which can be printed off to follow.

The light walk begins at the dock’s gates opposite Hilton Liverpool ONE, where visitors will be welcomed by Coat of Arms characters, Neptune and Triton, standing tall and leading the way underneath the curtain of blue lights, which are majestically draped along Salthouse Quay.

Next, wander past the festively-lit trees which lead up to Hartley Quay passing the International Slavery and Merseyside Maritime Museums. Here you’ll find the perfect selfie spot on Hartley Bridge, with Liverpool’s most dazzling backdrop, combining festive lights with the Dock’s enchanting waterside setting. A stone’s throw from here, the rainbow coloured Liverpool Mountain by artist Ugo Rondinone is shining bright for all to see at Mermaid Courtyard, another iconic photo opportunity.

From here, head past Tate Liverpool along the inner quay which has each of its 86 red columns exquisitely wrapped in over 1 million twinkling lights, lighting up the strip of independent shops and cafes. Follow the Colonnades round to Britannia Pavilion which boasts some of the finest independent restaurants in the city, and take the exit to the The Beatles Story to be greeted with Bella, Liverpool’s Liverbird symbol standing tall in Britannia Courtyard.

Lastly, take a left down Gower Street to find the second half of the Liverbird duo, Bertie, who can be found proudly guarding the entrance to Anchor Courtyard, completing the scenic Light Walk.

Once home, don’t forget to download a colouring-in sheet from the website with your favourite light installations.
