Merseyside charity calls on schools and communities to celebrate autism acceptance this April

A Merseyside-based charity dedicated to supporting autistic people is encouraging schools, workplaces, and communities to come together this April to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month.

Bromborough-based Autism Together is marking World Autism Awareness Day on April 2 by inviting individuals to learn more about autism, take part in activities, and raise awareness throughout the month.

o support this initiative, the charity is offering free downloadable resources from its website and encouraging people to host their own events and fundraising challenges, throughout April, to raise autism awareness and promote acceptance of autistic people.

Richard Whitby, CEO of Autism Together, said:

“This April, we are inviting the community to come together and celebrate Autism Acceptance Month in schools, workplaces, and communities.

“Providing understanding, support, and acceptance of autism and autistic people is central to our charity’s mission. Throughout the month, we will be sharing free resources and stories through our website and social media to enhance autism awareness and understanding, while building greater acceptance for autistic people.”

The charity is also asking people to ‘Get Active For Autism’ throughout the month, as Chloe Jones from Autism Together’s Fundraising team explained:

“We’re encouraging people to create their own Get Active challenges, seek sponsorship, and help raise funds for our charity and the people we support.

“Whether you want to skydive from 10,000 feet, climb mountains, run marathons, or try something entirely different, we want to hear from you.

“Alternatively, people could host their own fundraising bake sales to raise awareness of autism and our charity. We’ve even created our own charity cake flags and bunting, which can be downloaded and printed from our dedicated Autism Acceptance Month web page.

“If any budding fundraisers need help or inspiration, just reach out to us. We want to know about all your challenges, and we provide all our fundraisers with a free Autism Together t-shirt!”

Autism Together is also asking schools to get involved and participate in fundraising activities throughout April, with posters, sponsorship forms, and a downloadable fun book available on the charity’s website.
