Music lineup announced for Liverpool Loves 2017

The music lineup for Liverpool Loves has been revealed and is looking mighty fine with a feast of local music goodness to experience across the weekend.

The countdown is on to the third annual Liverpool Loves festival next weekend, put together by Liverpool events company ORB CIC, when fantastic music, family fun and activities take over the city centre on Saturday 5 August and Sunday 6 August.

The full weekend music programme now includes a headline performance from Liverpool singer songwriter Robert Vincent, who will appear on the Main Stage in Derby Square on the Saturday evening.

Liverpool’s very own award-winning singer songwriter Robert Vincent will headline the Main Stage on Saturday 5 August. Robert’s exciting mix of folk, rock and country sound have seen him referred to as a Mersey Van Morrison and Scouse Springstein.

Robert’s talent has seen him tour with the likes of Echo and The Bunnymen and James Blunt, as well as performing on stages across his hometown and the whole of the UK. And in 2016, he received the prestigious accolade of Emerging Artist of the Year at the very first UK Americana Awards for his acclaimed debut album Life In Easy Steps.

Liverpool singer songwriter Robert Vincent commented: “Being Liverpool born and bred, I am really excited to be headlining the Main Stage at Liverpool Loves 2017. I’ve heard lots of great things about the festival and now I cannot wait to be part of it next weekend. Going on tour is a real highlight of performing – but nothing quite beats a home crowd audience.”

Robert Vincent joins previously announced acts to complete the jam-packed programme – which includes an incredible nine hours of amazing music on Saturday 5 August, and seven sizzling hours of top tunes on the second day of Liverpool Loves on Sunday 6 August.

Here we take a look at the full music programme which will be on offer over the two days of Liverpool Loves 2017.

Main Stage – Saturday 5th August

Saturday’s line-up will be curated by The Guide Liverpool and SoulFest, and will run from 11am to 9pm.

Saturday’s programme starts at 11am on the Main Stage with Liverpool Media Academy’s Future Stars, featuring performances from the city’s most talented young musicians and dancers.

Liverpool’s SoulFest takes over the action on the Main Stage at 12.30pm, offering an exciting line-up including Cherri V, who has previously toured with pop sensation Jessie J. She will perform her new single Leave Me Be taken from her highly anticipated forthcoming debut album Brown Eyed Soul.

Milo Tain also joins the SoulFest line-up. A definite talent to look out for in 2017, the RnB/Funk and Soul artist from Liverpool brings his unique musical style reminiscent of classic 90’s RnB including his 2016 single The Look.

Since the release of her intimate and effecting debut single My Lover in March, soulful songstress Mica Miller has been compared to the likes of Etta James by BBC Radio’s Mike Sweeney. Liverpool Loves will be Mica’s first Liverpool show for 2017.  Completing the line-up are Raheem Alameen; LA Walkway; Halem; and Camilla Sky – who will also perform as part of the SoulFest programme.

The music then continues from 5pm to 9pm with us here at The Guide Liverpool programming the Main Stage’s Saturday evening segment. Joining headliner Robert Vincent on the bill are up-and-coming indie-rock band Stillia.

Hailing from St Helens, Stillia are a 4-piece band who have been making waves in the music industry, including being featured on BBC Introducing. Their debut single Let Me In, which was released earlier this year, was named Song of the Week on Radio X and they have showcased their incredible original music at shows and festival’s up and down the country.

The line-up also includes Liverpool talent Pixey. Pixey erupted on to the music scene in 2016 with the release of Young which received critical acclaim through BBC Introducing, this was followed up in 2017 with her 4-track EP including the single Hometown.

Three-piece alternative pop group Delphina Kings and 19-year-old electronic soul vocalist, musician and songwriter Sub Blue will also appear on the Main Stage as part of The Guide’s programme.

Both days at Derby Square will also feature a street food market and festivals bars, offering visitors a fun, friendly atmosphere reminiscent of an open-air European piazza.

Main Stage – Sunday 6th August

Sunday’s programme runs from 11am to 7pm, hosted by The Rider Podcast with John Gibbons from The Anfield Wrap – with a performance from Liverpool legend Edgar Jones. With a prolific career which has spanned almost 30 years, Edgar first came to light after forming rock band The Stairs in 1990.

Edgar Jones has since gone on to form and front The Isrites; The Big Kids; Edgar Jones and The Joneses; and Free Peace, as well as performing as a session musician with top artists including Ian McCulloch, Paul Weller and Ocean Colour Scene. Crowds will enjoy his vast repertoire spanning RnB, jazz and soul.

Liverpool’s post-punk, Americana sextet Red Rum Club will be channelling their ‘Tarantino-esque’ wild western vibes in their not-to-be-missed performance which includes their debut single Everybody’s Friend.

Natalie McCool, The Shipbuilders, Boston Shakers, The Protagonists, The Rackets, Ovvls and Joshua Hall are also all set to perform, rounding off an amazing two-day musical feast.

New for 2017, Liverpool Loves will take place across two locations and over two days, with Liverpool ONE recently being announced as the second site. The dual location will continue to host everything which Liverpool Loves has become renowned for including family fun, culture, food and wellbeing.

Liverpool ONE will host a programme of family and community activities as part of the Wellbeing Zone across both Thomas Steers Way and Chavasse Park, creating a real oasis in the city-centre.

The Culturebox Stage on Thomas Steers Way and the On The Green Stage located in Chavasse Park will feature live entertainment on both days, which includes international community groups and choirs on the Saturday, and Sunday will feature a community dance programme featuring local dance schools from across Liverpool City Region – the full programme for the two Liverpool One stages will be announced very shortly.

Liverpool Loves Festival Director Josh Boyd commented: “We’re back with a brand new feel and look for 2017. The aim of Liverpool Loves is to celebrate the very best local talent that our city has to offer, and that is evident in our vibrant and eclectic 2017 programme.

“We are confident that this year’s exciting music line-up will appeal to all ages, and we’re looking forward to some truly incredible performances over the two days. Be sure to join us this August for a festival that champions the best emerging and established talent from across the region, as well as supporting and empowering our local communities.”

Liverpool Loves, organised by Orb CIC, is a celebration of all things Liverpool – with four core themes of business, culture, food and well-being showcasing the best of life in the region.

The festival has continued to go from strength to strength since its inaugural year in 2015 with an attendance of 27,000 visitors over three days. An audience of 40,000 attended the second event in 2016, and Orb CIC is now on a mission to continue to build on this success. It has previously been located at the Pier Head.
