New ‘home from home’ doggy hotel and daycare opens in Roby
4 months ago
A new ‘home from home’ doggy hotel and daycare has opened in Roby giving furry guests everything from TVs in their rooms to organic homemade treats and puppuccinos.
The Pawsome Hotel has a sandpit, paddling pool and agility course for dogs to enjoy themselves outdoors between walks and there’s even a special pet-friendly bouncy castle about to be installed.
Owner Stacey says being a dog lover herself means she’s set out to create somewhere that’s like a second home so pets and owners can both relax.
“Lots of people treat their dogs like their children so I wanted The Pawsome Hotel to be more like a nursery than a kennels because it’s somebody else’s baby we’re looking after,” she says.
“You hear so many stories about kennels where dogs have gone in and not been the same when they come out, so we want their stay here to be as much like their own home as possible.
“We’ve got TVs and lampshades up in the kennels so they’re like a living room, and dogs have the run of the back garden and downstairs in our house.
“We have bi-folds across the back of the house which will be open, with two sofas with big throws inside, so they can just bring themselves in when they want to.
“The only time they’re in the kennels is if they’re going to sleep or they want a little rest after a long walk or the enrichment sessions.
“We’ve got snuffle mats, puzzles, games and tug of war, so we’ll spend a couple of hours a day on enrichment with each dog, either together or on their own depending on whether they’re dog reactive.
“We don’t just want them left to sit around all day, we want to look after them and play with them.”
Mum-of-three Stacey decided to open The Pawsome Hotel after having health issues earlier this year.
“I’ve always had dogs and after I’d been ill I really just wanted a life change so I was thinking, what can I do that I love?
“We’ve lived in this house for 15 months and it’s got a massive outdoor space with a big garage that had never been used. I thought it would be perfect to convert into kennels and then we could use the rest of the outside space for a run and play area.”
The former garage now houses six double-glazed kennels for small to medium-sized dogs and Stacey has installed full CCTV so owners can feel reassured about safety.
She puts together individual care plans for each guest, including dietary preferences, number of walks per day and whether they like to be with other dogs or not.
“We want to do whatever the owners are doing with them, nothing that takes them out of their comfort zone,” she adds.
“They bring their own food but I also make natural treats, ice pops made from yoghurt, honey and bananas, and peanut butter bites in the freezer for when it’s hot. They’re all organic, and I make puppuccinos which the dogs who’ve stayed so far have all loved.
“We only opened at the end of July but we’ve been really busy with meet and greets and bookings, either for daycare or longer stays.”
