New Mersey to host family fun day in support of Marie Curie
7 months ago
New Mersey Shopping Park has teamed up with the UK’s leading end of life charity Marie Curie and Arriva North West to host a community day, raising vital funds for this year’s Great Daffodil Appeal.
The Arriva double-decker will park up at New Mersey on Saturday 23rd March, allowing visitors to climb aboard and access free information about the care and support the charity provides to people with an illness they’re likely to die from, and their families.
For younger shoppers, there will also be the chance to enjoy face painting as well as snap a picture in the driver’s seat of the double decker in return for a small donation to the charity.
The Hospice Northwest Choir, made up of colleagues and volunteers from Marie Curie will also be performing on the day for visitors to enjoy.
The event is part of Marie Curie’s flagship fundraiser, the Great Daffodil Appeal, which helps to raise much needed funds for Marie Curie Nurses and healthcare professionals to provide expert support and hospice care, both in the comfort of home and at its nine hospices across the UK, including its site in Woolton.
The appeal runs throughout March and encourages people to donate and wear a daffodil to support the charity so they can help people with any illness they’re likely to die from, including dementia, heart, liver, kidney and lung disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s, and advanced cancer.
Local Marie Curie colleagues and volunteers will be at New Mersey across the weekend from 9am to 5pm Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th March, distributing the charity’s iconic daffodil pins in exchange for a donation.
Russel Hall, centre manager at New Mersey, said:
“We’re proud to partner with Arriva to support such an important national charity with this community event at New Mersey. It’s great for our customers to have access to their support, and we know our visitors will also give what they can to help Marie Curie continue its amazing work, both in our local community and across the UK.”
Jen Corrigan, Marie Curie Community Fundraiser for Merseyside, said:
“The Great Daffodil Appeal, now in its 38th year, is a brilliant and fun way to give back to our local community here in Speke whilst also helping Marie Curie continue to provide a vital service to those in the final chapter of their lives.
“I’m very grateful to New Mersey and Arriva for helping make this an extra special fundraising event – and to my colleagues and volunteers who are donating their time on the day. Marie Curie is dependent on public donations and last year the generous people across Merseyside helped raise more than £35,000 for the Great Daffodil Appeal. So if you’re planning to pop to the shops, come find us – we’ll be wearing our big yellow hats – and show your support!”
Richard Hoare, Area Director for Arriva North West said:
“We know that our staff and customers really care about the work Marie Curie does in local hospices and beyond.
“We’re proud and privileged to do whatever we can as a bus operator to help out The Great Daffodil Appeal this year by supplying a bus. We hope to see lots of people coming along on the day to support the event.”
Superdrug is the headline partner for Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal in 2024. You can also pick up a daffodil pin in any Superdrug store this March and help ensure everyone gets expert care and support right to the end.
