New Outdoor-Lifestyle Store Opens On Slater Street

New outdoor-lifestyle retailer, Outsiders Store has chosen Liverpool for the location of its first physical premises and will bring its collection of authentic outdoor, workwear and camp gear to Liverpool’s famously style-conscious, and increasingly adventurous, urbanites following its launch this week.

Opening its doors at Unit 2, 5 – 11 Slater Street, Liverpool, the store will offer a range of outdoor clothing and equipment from brands such as Patagonia, The North Face, Fjallraven, Snow Peak, Manastash and Poler. Outsiders Store is an outdoor retailer for fashion conscious city dwellers who want to connect with their natural surroundings on a regular basis and require clothing and gear with adaptability to suit those needs.

Speaking about why they chose to stock the brands they have, General Manager, Nick Wyles explained: “Authenticity and innovation were key. All the brands we’ve stocked were chosen because they represent our take on the modern outdoors lifestyle; stylish, well thought out garments and gear that transcend their designed purpose and look good in your day to day as well as being functional in more trying conditions outdoors.”

Wanting the store design to mirror this function as-style aesthetic, the creative team behind the store looked to counter-culture communities for inspiration. Creative lead, Adam Russ explains more, “A specific reference is Drop City, a ‘counter-culture’ artists community created from scratch in Colorado in the 70s. We reference some of this ‘hippie modernism’ in the store concept, but brought up to date through our use of materials and finish.”

Outsiders Store began as a casual conversation which came about when the founders experienced first-hand the modern outdoor scene in the Pacific Northwest and Japan. “We were seeing switched-on active folks like us who appreciated a more refined and modern retail experience than that of your typical outdoor store. It felt like the right time to commit and bring that concept to the UK.” explains Nick Wyles.

Speaking about their decision to open the store on Liverpool’s Slater Street, the team behind Outsiders Store said “Liverpool is one of the most vibrant cities in the UK with a thriving independent scene, so we’re definitely looking forward to being a part of that. We’re excited to see what the local response is. We’re bringing something unique to the table and hope the store will become a hub within the local community. Geographically you’re blessed with coastline and surrounded by great opportunities to get out of the city and get a fix of the outdoors.”

Along with a store launch party which will be held on the evening of 12th October at The Merchant, the store has released a one off printed publication containing brand profiles, walking guides and interviews. The ‘Original North West’ mag is available from today and gives readers a better understanding of what they can expect from the new store. Copies are available in the Slater Street store and have been distributed in partnership with music publication, Bido Lito and menswear magazine, Proper Mag. Original North West will also be available to pick up from surrounding local businesses and coffee shops.

Outsiders Store will also launch their retail website in the coming months. Learn more about Outsiders Store and sign up to their mailing list to keep in the loop: WeAre.OutsidersStore.com
