Norton Priory brings the past to life with packed Easter programme
2 hours ago
Norton Priory Museum and Gardens welcomes in spring with its full array of activities for the Easter holiday.
Set across 42 acres of woodland, gardens and historic ruins, they will be hosting a range of family events and unique experiences. Norton Priory invites visitors to explore the outdoors and spend time in one of Halton’s most distinctive heritage settings.
Families can take part this April in a variety of Easter activities with the aim of bringing the site to life for all ages.
Of course, there has to be an Easter Bunny hunt, which takes place on 3rd and 6th April, with the much-loved event exploring the grounds. As well as this, taking place on 4th and 5th April, the Chocolate Easter Egg Hunt challenges families to follow clues, with a sweet reward at the end.
Coming after rave reviews and high demand, Phantoms at the Priory – a striking immersive installation detailing 900 years of history- has now been extended throughout April and the Easter holidays.
This installation was created specially for Norton Priory Museum and Gardens, transforming the site into a living landscape of “Echoes of the Past.” Visitors can experience the real characters through this installation from the Priory’s history, including Canons, Knights and members of the influential Brooke family.

The phantoms are on the move too, with many appearing within the museum galleries and others emerging across the wider site. This installation was created by the team behind York’s hugely successful Ghosts in the Gardens. Part of Culture26, Halton’s year of culture, Phantoms at the Priory has very much become a must-visit event.
Alongside Easter activities, Norton Priory’s April programme offers a diverse mix of experiences for adults and families alike:
11th April – Family Friendly Crafts: creative, hands-on activities including peg creatures and handprint painting
12th April (9–10am) – Meditation at the Museum
12th April (10am–12pm) – Mindful Watercolours
18th April (7pm) – Haunted Book Club
26th April (6:30pm) – Sound Bath with River Voices
Visitors can also explore:
- Medieval priory ruins
- The Grade I listed undercroft
- The Georgian Walled Garden
- Two museum galleries
- Woodland walks and outdoor spaces
There is also a café and shop (no ticket required), dog-friendly grounds and free entry for children. Norton Priory is an accessible and rewarding day out for families, couples and individuals alike.
With extended summer opening hours beginning over the Easter period, Norton Priory Museum and Gardens is open throughout April.
