Placenta Plus owner Danielle Kinney answers your questions on placenta encapsulation
7 years ago
We head to a secret docklands location to find out more about the benefits of placenta encapsulation for expectant mums.
Mum of three and founder of Placenta Plus, Danielle Kinney is passionate about helping women restore their natural balance after giving birth and to get back on their feet the natural way with her range of organic products. Starting her business after suffering from post natal depression herself, Danielle threw herself into researching the benefits of placenta pills, a phenomenon that began in America and quickly gained fans here in the UK.
With business booming, right across the country, Placenta Plus hosted an open day earlier this summer, with fantastic results, and wants to continue spreading the word about placenta encapsulation.
Danielle met up with our Kate to chat about the most common questions she’s asked by mums-to-be. As the process is relatively new in the UK, Danielle is keen to reassure mums and curious partners and family, that different types of birth doesn’t rule out reaping the many benefits of placenta encapsulation and products.
Here’s Danielle’s 6 most frequently asked questions…..
1 – Can I have a water birth?
Yes water birth is totally fine! We advise that mums get out of the pool to deliver the placenta which is what most hospitals ask you to do anyway.
2. Can I still have placenta pills if you have a C-section?
Yes! C -section births are perfectly fine, just ensure that everyone in the theatre is aware that you are keeping the placenta and we will get to work making your product.
3 – Can I still have placenta pills if there is baby poo in the waters?
We know it sounds gross but sometimes your little one simply cant wait to make an appearance. Again yes, you can still go ahead with the procedure, we simply use a different method to create your pills.
4 – Can I take placenta pills while breastfeeding?
Yes, and in fact studies have shown that placenta pills actually helps with milk production too!
5 – How many pills will I get?
It all depends on the size of your placenta but on average it’s anything between 100-280.
6. What’s the difference between the two methods of pills.
The difference is how the two types of pills are prepared. One method begins the process from its raw state, it’s believed this method is more energising in its results. The second, traditional Chinese method involves the placenta being steamed before it begins the dehydration process. This is thought to be more calming in its effect.
Placenta Plus are able to provide mums with a number of products. Danielle and a legion of fans including Colleen Rooney and Real Housewives of Cheshire star, Tanya Bardsley know first hand how the range of placenta products, including pills, face cream, balm and more, can help with post-birth recovery.
Danielle said: “More women now want to know exactly what they’re putting into their bodies and where its come from, especially when they’ve just given birth. The big advantage of placenta cream is that it contains the woman’s own collagen and stem cells and so her body is going to react much better to something it knows.”
