Rolling Stones-inspired Liverpool rock n roll night is coming to St George’s Hall

St. George’s Hall will play host to a The Rock N Roll Revue on Wednesday 27 November 2024.

A rock n roll night inspired by The Rolling Stones and featuring a supergroup of Liverpool artists is coming to St George’s Hall.

The Rock N Roll Revue will take over the iconic venue performing hits from rock legends like The Beatles, The Stones, The Doors, Elvis, Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix.

It’s the second time The Rock N Roll Circus has performed at St George’s, moving away for the night from its regular after-hours gig at The Jacaranda and opening the event up to a wider audience.

Guitarist Paul Nazole, who put together the band last summer, says it’s a chance to see some absolute anthems played by favourites from the local music scene.

He explains: “It’s like a tribute to the golden age of rock but because the guys involved in the band are all artists with their own careers, they bring a bit of themselves into it so we’re not trying to emulate something. It’s more about trying to express the spirit of it.”

Paul created The Rock N Roll Circus after he was approached by The Jac to put on a late-night music event from midnight to 2am every Saturday.

“We talked about something which could be like a social thing where musicians who’d all finished gigs could gather,” he adds.

“The idea was to create a band made up of really good players from different bands, and then if we saw people we knew in the audience we’d get them up to join us.

“It grew from there over the year and it’s involved loads of different people so now it has this real community element to it which is what music is all about.

“It’s off-the-cuff so we never really know what it’ll turn into and we’ll often read the room a bit and play what people are feeling.

“A lot of the boys who’d joined the band have said it’s really helped them to just enjoy music again because we’re playing these songs we liked when we were younger. It’s going back to doing it like you would as a kid.”

The Rock N Roll Circus has a core of five or six members who’ll be playing at the St George’s Hall night on Wednesday November 27 along with special guests.

Paul will be on guitar with lead vocalist Bobby West, Joe ‘the blow’ (bass and trumpet), who plays for Red Rum Club, John Ellwand on drums and vocals, guitarist Callum Thompson (The Mysterines) and guitarist Nick East.

The band also regularly works with guitarist Robert Johnson and vocalist Naomi Campbell, both from Motel Sundown.

Paul says by blending fresh talent with nostalgia they’ve created something that crosses generations, and the previous St George’s Hall Concert Room gig attracted all ages.

“Because it’s a relatively young band playing older music, audiences are really mixed in ages. When I looked back at the one we did in summer you can see teenagers dancing who we know from The Jac, and then people on the same floor who’ve just heard about it through St George’s Hall. I don’t think you often get that apart from at a wedding.

“The layout and the unreserved seating of the venue really adds to that too. I like the idea of people being able to move around the venue rather than being shown to a seat where you have to watch the show from for the whole night.

“You can sit, then grab a drink while the show’s on, get up and dance, have a wander around. I imagine it’s like when The Beatles played places like the Litherland Town Hall.”

The Rock N Roll Revue is at St George’s Hall Concert Room on Wednesday November 27, 8pm. You can book tickets HERE.
