A world premiere stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved Tales from Acorn Wood visits Liverpool Playhouse this half term for a family treat from Tuesday 31 October to Saturday 4 November.
Tales from Acorn Wood is based on the best-selling lift-the flap books for pre-school children, the series has global sales of nearly 7 million and is available in 26 languages.
The enduring collaboration between author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler has gifted Liverpool with a plethora of delightful performances, including Zog, Zog and the Flying Doctors, Tabby McTat, The Smartest Giant in Town, Stick Manand The Smeds and The Smoos.
With central themes of friendship, empathy and having fun together, Acorn Wood is its own little world; an idyllic woodland setting with a community of friends where familiar themes resonate with all young children.
Author Julia Donaldson said:
“I am really happy that the Tales from Acorn Wood are now moving to the stage. Fans of the books are bound to enjoy seeing the four main characters – Fox, Bear, Pig and Rabbit – brought to life through NLP’s clever staging. Live performance and songs are both very close to my heart and I am sure this production will delight children and families.”
Illustrator Axel Scheffler added:
“I have always enjoyed illustrating these stories; the wide cast of animal friends is fun to draw, and I enjoy developing their world through my pictures. I am very pleased that the NLP team is using state of the art staging and technology to create a brilliant experience for children, and I am looking forward to seeing it all, especially how they create the lift-the flap effects on stage!”
The show is packed full of toe-tapping songs and an array of beautifully crafted puppets at the Liverpool Playhouse from Tuesday 31 October to Saturday 4 November. Tickets priced from £11 to £15, are on sale now.
