Independents across the city including Doogles Donuts, Picnic, and The Interesting Eating Company will be serving up limited edition drinks in ‘The Good Cup’ – a cutting-edge packaging innovation in response to the global plastic crisis.

A group of local hospitality businesses have come together to celebrate Eurovision and raise money to support those displaced by the war in Ukraine.

The idea came from Vicky Gawith, founder of MerseyMade, who will also be stocking the special edition cups in the MerseyMade Scribble Café on Paradise Street.

Vicky said:

“We wanted to do something to support the people of Ukraine, but with a sustainable mindset. The Good Cup is made from 100% recycled material and 100% home compostable, and because there’s zero plastic in the cup it can be fully recycled or fully compostable after use, so we’re promoting a sustainable solution as well as raising money to support those affected by the war.”

A design celebrating the city’s links to Ukraine has been created especially for the cups by local artist and MerseyMade resident Kate Bigley, making them the must-have accessory for anyone attending Eurovision 2023.

For every drink sold in The Good Cup, the businesses taking part will make a donation to The Ukrainian Welcome Centre in Crosby, who offer a support network for Ukrainians and their local sponsors, as well as sending help back to Ukraine.

The Good Cup’s fully patented design features an integrated lid that folds and locks into place, eliminating the need for a separate plastic lid and have been supplied by Green Bell Packaging, a local plant-based & plastic-free packaging company.

A spokesperson for Green Bell Packaging said:

“We’re delighted to be launching The Good Cup in Liverpool in partnership with local independents, to celebrate Eurovision and the city’s special relationship with Ukraine. To know that The Good Cup is not just doing good for the planet but also doing good for the community is a wonderful thing.”

You can grab your own limited edition #LiverpoolLovesUkraine Good Cup from Doogles Donuts, Picnic, The Interesting Eating Company, 52 Rose Lane, Eastzeast, Yogee Treats and MerseyMade.
